Default Idle - Question

When in park, is it normal for the rev limiter to jump up and down (slightly) while idling?

In PARK, the rev limiter is programmed at 4000 rpm. There is no idle rev limiter.

What I mean is, the revs oscillate at idle while in park (ever so slightly) without me doing anything.

Sounds kind of like surges but probably like 1-200rpms up and down only in park/idle.

200 would seem like a lot to me
I feel like mine fluctuates maybe 50-100 occasionally

seems to be worse when it's really hot I think, but that might be in my head or just due to the AC compressor kicking on and off

Depending on the situation most GM (as well as other brands) have the A/C compressor operating off and on whenever the car is running. Helps keep the cabin dry and the windshield from fogging. Open your hood and observe the A/C compressor and see if it cycles "on it's own." Then get "Trained Helper B" to cycle the A/C heat as you watch the compressor. It should cycle on and off in conjunction with the heater control. See if this affects your idle.

Found the issue - this was not hooked up for some reason.

Can anyone with an A8 tell me if that’s their hose setup? This seems flimsy as hell

I think it’s called the throttle body hose (the giant one with the sleeve on it)

That is an aftermarket air intake. Also, it looks like you are missing the underhood duct that directs air coming out of the upper half of the radiator through the hood. Was that removed to give you more room to work on the intake? With the intake and the catch can installed we know the car is definitely not stock. Do you know if it was tuned or if any other mods were performed on the car? The mods may be causing your idle fluctuations if the compressor isn't.

I removed the duct to make room but I did find it odd that my m7 c7 has an iron clad looking hose vs this one. This car is suppose to be stock and I’ve had since 3k miles. Do you happen to know what parts would make this stock?

btw reattaching the intake thing fixed the rpm issue

Wow! You're absolutely right.
This was sold to me with a C7 Corvette Halltech Stinger-RAZ Stage 1 RAM Air Intake - Z06 (corvettepartsandaccessories.com) halltech air intake.

Does anyone have any idea if this is part of CAI or something else?

not positive but I think those lines are the coolant lines to the charge air cooling system, although it's not stock because I don't recall mine having that "manifild" looking block that you circled
no idea what kind of mod that is

but again, I'm not sure, I'm sure somebody on here will know

Did you add the green belt? Your car doesn't look stock at all. Maybe returned to stock.

Green belt was added by the dealer to replace faulty OEM belt.
They said this is what GM recommends as a replacement.

That looks like a catch can to me. If you have have a catch can …. I’m thinking you may have an aftermarket cam. A cam with some extra overlap compared to stock will make your idle fluctuate for sure.
When your car idles does it sound smooth ? Or is there a bit of a “chop” as we call it.

That is a catch can. You might want to check it and see how much oil it has caught.
