Default A8 dash cluster gear indicator.
Not sure if there is a setting or not but my 2017 A8 shows drive and what gear the trans is in but my 2015 A8 only shows drive but not what gear the trans is in?

It should indicate that. Have you tried disconnecting the battery for a few moments and see if that may help. These cars do crazy things at times, especially when it comes to electronics.
