Got under the car today, changed oil and noticed that all 4 corners seem to have dirty oily a-arms and area…shocks are oily too… assuming that these shocks are in need of replacement? Car has 16k miles, it’s a 15z…
what’s the best place to get OEM or better shocks?
Does your car have the FE6 base Z06/GS suspension or the performance FE7 suspension that came on the Z07 versions of the car. The OEMs are about the best you can get unless you want to go with a more race oriented shock that also requires you to change the shock control module. The OEM shocks aren't cheap so you need to make sure they are truly bad. I am attaching the guide that GM uses to determine if the MRC shocks need to be replaced.
Depending on whether or not you have the FE6 or FE7 suspension the shocks required will change. GM Discount Parts dealers charge from $500 to $520 plus tax and shipping. Your local dealer parts counter can order the correct shocks based on the VIN of your car without any shipping charges and may offer an extra discount if you ask so they may become the low-cost supplier. Amazon has some aftermarket shocks that are available at about half the price of the wholesale GM shocks but you need to know which ones your car needs so that means talking to a dealer parts person and getting the GM part numbers.
Sharing what I found ...
Checked 3 local dealers, they wanted 801 per shock.... one of them wouldn't even share part #s.
Regardless, for my 15 Z06/Z07 here is what I have gathered so far based on talking to one of the dealers(using my Vin #) and the internet ..
FRONT shocks - OEM part # 23284143 retail is $801. - Several internet sellers have part # 84235049 as being the same or updated #. Internet prices are around 450
