My 2016 Z06 had a hot starter issue and I kept cranking it and a fire started on a cable bundle under hood mid passenger side (maybe the starter cable bundle??). Got it towed and figured I would replace the battery while under warrenty. Replaced and figured I would try to start and it did but when I shut it down it would not restart. Car sat and on occasion would try to start no luck. Battery ended drained so used warrenty to get another one. Styarted reading these forums going from battery forward to trace an issue. New battery (no luck), replaced battery fuse plate figured maybe the 350Amp was dead (have power going to insturment panel now and gages but no starter engagment just silence), replaced both fuses in engine compartment fuse panel (no change) where should I go next? Ignition relay? I have a new starter just not skilled or patient enough to do it (I think I have no choice though) remembering the vehicle did restart one time with the new battery. the starter cable bundle that goes to the solinoid takes months on backorder if needed. Anything else I should try before I have to dig into the starter replacement? Also I did notice that when going to start the car after I replaced the fuse plate the brakes were rock hard (very little movement). Is there possibly anything with that understanding the car has been sitting for months. Lots of questions so your patience with everyone's expertise is greatly appreciated.
I would start looking at local shops that specialize in electrical diagnosis if replacement of fuses didn't fix your issues.
Would not the same thing happen if the solinoid was shot or the solinoid cables are burnt out? If power is going through the fuses (which I assume as they are good and everything else on the car is getting power) then is the next point the wires to the solinoid hence why I do not even get a click on the starter. I know these are novice questions from me but towing to an auto electrical expert seems premature huh when there are other stop points prior. Any true experts on here with advise outside of send the car to someone. Starter was fine, would not start due to a common C7 issue and now what is next after a full trunk to hood fuse box replacement. Others have been through this that can provide detail, no?
We regret to hear you've had so much troubles with your Corvette. Were these previous repairs done at a GM dealership or did you perform them yourself? Either way, it is best to seek assistance from your local Chevrolet dealership who has the expertise to find a cause and resolution. A bad ignition relay would not cause a no crank condition…so if you want to try to diagnose this yourself what kind of electrical diagnostic skills do you possess ??….do you know how to read the starting circuit wiring diagram below ??…you can take something like a paper clip bent into a U and jump pins 30 and 87 of your starter relay …if the car cranks ( make sure you are in neutral and e brake set) then you have an issue on the control side of the starting circuit…pins 85 and 86…if the car doesn’t crank over do you how to do a voltage drop check on the starting system ??…you will check both the positive and negative sides of the starting system and you will need to get underneath the car…you will need extra long test leads for your DVOM as you will have to go from your battery to your starter…if this testing is over your head then you should let an auto electric shop handle this…these tests are the only way to accurately diagnose this….also do you have a scan tool and not a cheap code reader to see if you can communicate with the modules that are needed to allow the car to start (ECM, BCM, RCDLR) ??…this may also be a communication issue and nothing wrong with your starting system.
