Default Battery maintainer hack

Battery Maintainer hack
Battery Maintainer hack
I have received some good information from this site, so I just wanted to share this with you. Many owners probably keep their battery maintained since they don't daily drive their cars. I was tired of having to open the trunk and connecting the maintainer alligator clips to the batter, then running the cord out the side of the trunk. I decided to permanently attach the maintainer plug to the battery and run it to a location where I could easily plug it in without having to open the trunk. Now it takes me a few seconds to attach my charger/maintainer when necessary. I made a video, but it is in MP4 format, so I am unable to upload it. Some of you might find this useful.

Why were you using alligator clips instead of just plugging it into the socket on the side of the trunk.

My socket plug was damaged, so I was using the alligator clips. Either way, I found it inconvenient to always have to open the trunk to get access to either the battery terminals or socket.

Solved your problem nicely done. Fortunately opening the trunk to plug in the battery tender for me is not an issue.

I plug mine in to the rear outlet and then lower the rear hatch without fully closing/locking it. The OP's solution is a good idea, however for me, leaving the hatch open reminds me to disconnect my battery tender before I back out of the garage. If I were to wire up the tender similar to the OP's solution, odds are I would forget to unplug the tender and would end up damaging the connector and maybe even the car when backing out.

I understand how some people could forget they have the charger connected and move the car causing further problems. In my case I leave the charger box on my seat and plug the charger into a socket next to the driver's door, so I always have reminders. Just sharing some information; everyone does what works best for them.
