"The Corvette Team is back in Marietta, OH for more testing of the 2018 Corvette ZR1 (or perhaps a track-ready Corvette Z06X) and tonight we caught the first glimpse of a convertible model along with two different rear wing designs. As if that is not enough, we also have video of the 2018 Corvette ZR1 prototypes leaving the gas station and you can hear the exhaust note in all its glory."

"I would imagine that on an upper level model like the ZR1, those carbon ceramic brakes would be standard."

Now that's a wing!!

There's something going on on the rear fascia. A raised rectangle just below a similar shaped indention.

This instantly comes to mind...

Well, if you got it right the first time during the past 19 years, there is no need to re-invent.

The C5 Z06 had it right and the C6 Z06(and the C6 ZR1) had it right, so no need to redesign those cars.

It appears that they are doing a mid generational change to the C7 Z06's front end, so it's a little early to say the first run "got it right".

Tell me, why would GM be redesigning(ie: $$$$$$$$) the front end of the C7Z06 with all the new grille openings, if they didn't need to.

Maybe, just maybe, they didn't get it right the first time.

Maybe several aftermarket companies that have new kits that modify the front end of the C7 Z06 to eliminate the cooling problems, have it right, because GM didn't get it right the first time.

GM never redesigned the front end of the C5 or the C6, as it wasn't necessary, nor did they redesign the supercharger on the ZR1 as they have on the C7 Z06. Maybe because they got it right the first time on the ZR1.

BEZ06 has run his C6 Z06, his C6 ZR1 and his C7 Z06 with the M7, around Daytona a bunch of times(and has posted videos). He ran his 2016 C7 Z06 last weekend at Daytona. To cut down on the high speed aero drag(as his is a Z07), he was running with the small stage 2 front winglets on the front splitter and the stage1(base) rear spoiler.

9AM and he hit 175 MPH after he warmed up the tires. Then his top speed kept dropping each lap. That never happened with his C6 Z06 or his C6 ZR1. BTW, he hit 175 in his C6 Z06 and 185 in his C6 ZR1. He has a good feeling as to what each car will do as he has driven all three around Daytona.

Can you post a link to where it was confirmed a Z06? I must of missed that. The Rest of the world seems to think it's a more track oriented model or a ZR1, both of which could have different facias. I would bet my Z07 that the z06 front end won't be changed for the rest of the generation.

Well, it might not be anything more than some sort of raised bit to cover the Corvette script and crossed flags. Still seems odd to camo the whole rear and have some sort of protruding cover specifically for the emblems that could easily just be taped over. Maybe some sort of variation on the flow-tie?

I must have missed the link where GM released a press release stating that the camo'd cars in the spy photos are ZR1's. Can you post a link to that press release?

Until you can do that, my speculation that the spy photos are of a Z06 is just a valid as yours, or any ones else's.

I believe that the photo of a convertible with the new front end does lean towards the possibility that it's a Z06, as I can't see a "track" car being a convertible. Also the convertible has a small wing whereas the coupe has a large wing, but both have the new front end. Why would they have two different rear aero designs if they(the convertible and the coupe) are a ZR1? Then compare the photos showing a coupe with the small wing mounts and then those with the large wing. Why would GM have a ZR1 with two aero packages if it is supposed to be the "track monster", with one of them being the same as a convertible. I really doubt if anyone is going to track a convertible since most tracks won't let them without installing a roll bar/cage.

Are you serious? You forgot a couple things didn't you...LOL...Let me refresh your memory.

"Yeah - but the fastest times I've done in the C6 Z06 (175) and ZR1 (185) were in the December event where we can run with the windows up, and that adds at least 7 or 8 mph to top speed. So, when I run at the Dec event I expect I'll be pushing 180 across the S/F line - still not quite as fast as the ZR1.

I've got the M7 and it's completely stock right now. I've had no overheating or limp mode issues at all running in 91°+ heat Friday and Saturday, and I've been running it hard in 30 minute sessions

Overall I really love the C7 Z06!! The car handles really great, and I like all the PTM mode selectability."

Once again ragging on the C7Z...Insecure much? Literally in 100's of your posts I don't remember seeing ONE nice word about the C7Z.

100% of the time I see a post from you, there is a 100% chance it is something NEGATIVE towards a C7Z. How can you consider yourself a true Vette enthusiast and hate on your own kind so much? You act as if are absolutely NO redeeming qualities about the C7Z...The length at which you'll go to find something negative is pathetic.

MRLS: 1:33.05 vs. 1:33.70 vs. 1:34.43
Best 1/4mi Time: 10.41 vs. 10.66 and 10.97
1 Second faster than the ZR1 at Milford, and surely alot more than 2 second faster than the C6Z.
Faster at all the tracks they've both been tested at.

Outside of the interior, I think the C6Z is one of the coolest cars on the road, but your incessant hate for the C7Z forces me to illuminate it's deficiencies vs the C7Z. Sad for both of us.

But hey, YUP...they got it wrong!!

Keep ragging on the new Z, as we all enjoy the newer technology, superior interior and superior performance.

Cherry picking I see. Why didn't you quote BEZ06's statement about his speed dropping each lap? While he didn't go into limp home mode, he was losing power each lap(as quite a few others have posted about happening to them) as shown by his decreasing top speed each lap. That is a first design deficiency that GM had to address going into their 3rd year of Z06 production; a redesign of the supercharger, as I stated in my post.

BEZ06 said he expected to hit 180 in December when the windows are up. Still slower than his ZR1 and while faster than his C6 Z06, he does have 145 more horse under the hood, than his C6 Z06.

I never said nor implied that he didn't love his C7 Z06. I was going on the performance that he mentioned, between his C6 Z06, his C6 ZR1 and his C7 Z06. I bet he loved them all.

I wonder how much it will cost BEZ06 to upgrade his supercharger to the 2017 specifications so he can drive it around Daytona without losing speed each lap? I think I saw a post where it was around $6,000 or $7,000 dollars buying the parts from your friendly GM dealer's parts guy. Also there is always the question---will that void his warranty?

I wouldn't be surprised if I could hit 180 in my C6 Z06 at Daytona for less than that amount, and be able to maintain that speed lap after lap.
