getting the volumes above 10k engines would sure reduce the costs
that was the LT5 killers, cost, weight, and complexity.
with the mid engine platform, this is a great choice and I sure hope GM has the foresight to repeat history in a very good way
the old lt5 doesn't get much respect anymore, but maybe the sb4 will

While this would be welcomed, I still think we will see a tweaked version of the LT4.

Get a grip. I think the prospect of GM looking outside to Mercury Marine for design / engineering help on 2018 ZR1 is a bit silly.
I understand Team Corvette sought development assistance for LT4 many years ago, but the superior engineering and manufacturing capability at the Performance Racing facility has delivered significant accomplishments at the racetrack over the last decade recent years.
GM - if anything - is an accomplished engine builder across a variety of automobile platforms and does pretty well in NASCAR, NHRA, IndyCar, IMSA and other racing series. I suspect LT5 – whatever it is – will be engineered and supplied without the assistance Mercury Marine

ZR1 + LT5 =LT4 with a 2.65 new blower is the scuttle!
Just a guess the DOHC on the midengine!

GM is more than experienced enough to handle making a DOHC V8 in any configuration in-house.

I saw one of these at SEMA, in a Ford chassis...
I still don't get why GM didn't give us a successor to the LS7. I'm sure the latest Gen LT4 and LT5 are sweet but there's something to be said about N/A power. Fingers crossed we get an LT7, something to dethrone Ford's Flat plane voodoo

Right!
Although You may not like it!
“After driving this around for a while the Z06 feels really sluggish,” said Juechter. It’s a nice exclamation point in the dying embers of C7 before C8 goes mid-engine and DOHC.

Could definitely do it integrated with stock ECM and just run the ignition side of things, or full control. You could use a myriad of trigger signals to make it work. I converted a number of distributor based cars to COP...everything from cam gear trigger to crank trigger. I'd use a Megasquirt mostlikely, but there are a number of options.

ZR1 build is in progress and the other doesn't feel sluggish.
Got to say something to create the need to by one.
How sluggish is your 1998 Corvette that you still drive?
