Come on- wrap will have, literally, no measurable impact on a lap time.

Post on Oliver Gavin's (#4 Factory C7.R driver) Instagram page. His comment confirms that they want to go back in the Spring.
"I've now had the pleasure of driving the ZR1 twice at the ring. Taming this beast around the 14mile / 22km circuit, with 755bhp, was amazing fun! It was also great to work with the Corvette engineering group on the testing and development of the C7 ZR1. Hopefull we'll be going back to the Ring sometime Spring 2018."

would be awesome if he sets the official GM ring time, he's a beast in the c7r! But I hope he pushes the Zr1 harder than he did the Grand Sport at a media event where Andy Pilgrim had a faster lap time

Not that it matters, but if GM had something to brag about, they would be. They certainly were all over the place w/ the C6 Z06 and ZR1 Nürburgring lap times.

Lars Kern, ultimately set the final record time in the GT2 RS. Alongside the Carrera Cup Australia, Kern regularly competes in the VLN Endurance Championship on the Nürburgring and knows the Nordschleife inside out.
I strongly believe the ZR can beat the P-car, but on the ring a driver who is familiar with the track will not be a fast as someone who is intimate with it. So many blind corners and different road surfaces.

what I’ve read is GM is shooting for sub 7. Will they make it who knows but that’s what’s been stated by GM. I think this car will hit sub 7 seven, moreover I think they’ve under rated the car similar to what Mercedes has done with gts and gtr . Porsche is no different but the gt2 that ran for the record is essentially a race car, no creature comforts. I bet if GM came out with a version that deleted a lot of the goodies this car would easily keep up or beat the gt2.

If there was ever a Corvette that deserves to have a stripped down (creature comfort-wise) race version available, this would be it. How about the ZR1-X?

We came up with a 7:56!

The GT2 RS is half racecar and half computer controlled mechanisms! And execution perfectly applied!

I’m curious what updates have been done. I’ve had both an auto and now a manual c7 z06 (over heat is why I switched). I’m hoping the extra hp, torque, and tb will eliminate some of issues in the auto so that gearing and lag is much better (10 speed would’ve been better). The cooling issue should be resolved in this car.

Yeah they really need a stripped version 250lbs lighter.

250 lbs divided by 3524 = 7% lighter

Nah! ;)
Aventador SV, & ZL1 1LE: ~3,900lbs!?
918 ~3,600lbs
A Turbo 911!?
The latest PTM - MR/Ediff. controls, and a proper A8 (hands-on) gets it done!
The Viper got close and it was flawed, and under powered.
GM's weak *** attitude is seemingly the greatest hurtle. Maybe Tadge is just justifying before and being coy!
And I did the math before: using VIR+3s!? and a 7:10 ZO6 got ~7:01?!
GM pulling a rabbit out their hat!

There is 0 reason they can't release a time with vinyl wrap. The challenge is to beat the ACR. They probably haven't been able to do so yet is my best guess. It's not easy for an American company to run good times in Germany. I still think the ACR's aero is way better, and so are the tires (unless they blow up!).
I don't envy any of these drivers setting lap records on the Nurburgring. It's a death defying job. The Kumho's kept coming off the rim and they attempted day after day to set a record in the ACR...wild.

Absolutely!
The Viper's bigger down force pins its truck torque tail down and lifts its front!?
The Viper's big aero and lack of power were Ring impediments, Clearly!
The ZR1 is a better balanced car with limited purpose for a dangerous limited purpose! The beauty of that Porsche like speed is how easy and safe control looks!

I think they already have gotten a sub 7 Ring time during the Camo runs or if not then they have very good reason to confidently believe they'll get under 7 seconds in the spring.
No way would GM give a specific metric like that if there was a chance they won't be able to hold up.
And before people chime in with "where was the Z06 time even though Tadge said this was the most track capable Corvette?" - Tadge never went as far as to give a Ring time goal for the Z06 and a projected period of year where they would be conquering such a time.
