New article talks about the ZR1 weight!

The track zr1 imo should not have all of the luxries, I mean it is a "track car" why the hell u need power seats and fancy electronic equipment? Could easily reduce the weight quite a bit.

Some interesting comments...Keep a few things in mind.
1. They aren't perfect, but GM also isn't stupid. They know their market segment pretty well.
2. They are budget constraint.
3. It must be in-line with modern emissions, crash testing, comfort etc (see #2, budget)
4. They need to find a balance between: performance, sales and overall budget/cost.
I personally think they have done a nice job of this. Better than any manufacturer I can think of at the moment. Selling in Viper-like numbers is simply NOT an option for Corvette. So they have no choice but to appeal to the MAJORITY, not the minority.
I'm sure there are MANY people inside GM that would love a GT3RS/GT2RS.ACR-E style Corvette with a fairly large budget to make it happen. Sadly, it's not up to them.

1LZ to 3LZ adds roughly 35 lbs. If you care about saving weight on track just buy some track seats on the AMT mounts and you can bolt them in when you go to the track. Seats, wheels, and tires, are pretty much the only serious weight savings on this car and even that is probably 100 lbs at most.
The C7Z hides the weight well and unless you were driving one with and without 200+ lbs of extra weight back to back I doubt 99% of the drivers could tell a difference on track. I can tell the difference with a passenger in the car if I drive back to back but I also push the car very hard and am pretty in tune with it at this point. I can't tell the difference between a full and empty fuel load though which is roughly 100 lbs.

It's NOT a track car. It's a grand touring car that can go to the track and beat track cars.

This is where I believe GM does a better job than most. Separating signal from noise. I also believe this is what killed the Viper.

"Road Hugging Weight" straight out of the Ford commercial from the 70's for the Pinto. In the same era Chevy had the Chevette with "The Sound of Efficiency" because the could not get the engine to stop pinging.

Funny that other manufacturers of high performance sports cars try to cut the weight when building a 'bad ***' car instead of relying on just increasing the horsepower to improve prformance.
Mercedes cut the weight of the AMG GT when they released the GT R version, and the head of AMG says they are going to cut the weight even more with the soon to be released GT R Black Series, even though they are not anywhere near maxed out on the GT R's horsepower(577). He said the chassis could handle still more horsepower, but they are concentrating on cutting weight.
Cutting weight helps improve performance in braking, cornering and acceleration, whereas increased horsepower to get around having a heavy weight, just helps acceleration at WOT down a straight, instead of in all the other areas of a road course.

I'm going to buy one. I'm going to get all the "luxries". I'm going to track the heck out of it. Just like my last two C7Zs and the Stingray before it. Are you serious about buying one?

Replacing the factory power seats with a quality fixed race seat is probably worth 50-80 lbs.

I agree. I have all Lexan windows in my C6Z06 as well as all Carbon Fiber Body panels. The cost of doing so is extremely expensive. I would just change out the items you identified, keep the factory warranty and go have fun.
They could have saved a good amount of weight from the factory, but then a number of people would not be buying the car as they want the options.

My understanding is power vs non power windows are pretty much a wash these days. That is unless you want to remove the glass and window tracks and put in window nets or lexan like an actual race car.

Try a lil bit higher than that. Friend of mines weighed his Huracan at 3,564 lbs before sending it to UR for a TT kit.

Well their scale would be off. Because mine(also shown in my avatar) doesn't weigh that much on 2 different scales and it's one of the more highly optioned 610-4 out there at 300k msrp. But either way that's irrelevant BECAUSE the question was name one car that weighs less than 3600lbs and has 600hp. And I named two.

All of this talk about weight savings should be looked at mathematically.
For example, for a 3500lb. car lightning it by 100 lbs. is a 3% (rounded) reduction in weight.
200 lbs. is 6%.
500 lbs. is 14%.
At what point will a driver be able notice a difference (without a stopwatch)?

EXACTLY!! So I have no clue why people on here complain about things like this!! If you want a track vette buy the lightest version, super lightweight seats and start removing all the Sound insulation and carpet! To get the power and weight of 600+ and sub 3500 lbs you have to charge nearly double.

I disagree the 1lz is the better car overall over the 3lz.. At less cost! None of the 3lz options make the sports car any better for sports car driving but they do make it heavier.
Just what I don't want in a sports car. EXTRA weight! The cheap suede makes the car look cheap inside.
Then who wants that stuff GLUED on the pillars?
10k for that stuff not in this lifetime. If there is a problem with the interior it is on the 3 lz car more stuff to go bad and it does. The seat heaters are marginal the memory seats get lots of complaints!
Yep 1 lz!
