Default tune

no auto ECU is not tuneable. it is just a matter of time and expertise before the keys are broken. even apple and microsoft cant prevent the eventual from occurring.

I was told the same thing by a reputable source.

Seems dangerous to me, imagine a bad flash the night before and you go to use the car, or what about a flash while you try to use the car?

From Feb 2018:

I personally, don't see it happening (referring to a permanently untunable state). In my opinion, the more they claim it can't be tuned, the more it pushes the aftermarket to pour R&D into it to get the notoriety of being the first to break the claim.

I've got 20 years in information technology and a bit over 10 in reverse engineering embedded software. I'm sure you can tune circles around me, but I can tell you how a line of software code actually becomes something tangible and real like an injector pulse or a spark event.

Our page 1, Post 7 and 8, from Feb 2018...waitin on Jeff V to come in and reco'nize and maybe learn something from the guys who are in on it, because this little fella was UPSET.

Mega props to the guys that figured it out with HP, DSX and others involved....the aftermarket never fails...lol. Some of us know that, Jeff V and his crew didn't.

The factory ECU still isn't tunable. The customized ECU you pay a couple thousand dollars for, is. I'm not that impressed.

C8 is going to be a real bear when it's not just the ecm that has to get replaced. It's giving development fits.

Me: I'd like to get into that vault and get the Colonel's secret recipe. Can you crack the combination?
Them: If you pay us for a new door that we already have the keys to, and then pay us again to use those keys, sure!
Me: I feel like we're not on the same page here...

You have a point. I think marketing terminology here needs to be updated. They havent really cracked anything, they are basically reading the hardware encryption key off the actual chip on the physical box. This requires them to either drill into the box (so they can insert their diodes) OR pry open the box, hence the need for a new ecu and high cost.

Cracking the encryption would mean at the software level.

And yet the end result is a tunable ZR1.

No one gives a crap about cracking codes if you don't have to crack codes to achieve the result. This isn't a software forum, it's Corvette Forum.

Working on the security is like trying to pick the lock on the front door when the window was open the whole time. Have fun on the porch.

Amen....

They criticize the hack because it didn't happen in the methodology they'd hoped for. Hacked is hacked, cracked is cracked.

Nobody is criticizing anything. I just stated the wording they have used is misleading.

Which wording were you referring to, specifically?
