Default 100 octane questions

couple of questions regarding this 100 octane recommendation from the manual:

- Does the car make the advertised 755hp with 100 octane or without? If without, what are the hp numbers for 100 octane, does anyone know?
- When GM took the record lap in VIR, did they use 100 octane?

I m beginning to think to run this car at 100%, you will always need 100 octane? Not sure if its a noticeable difference

It depends on the rating system. 93 = 100

Not in this case. The 100 octane in the OM means the US rating system. It most certainly does not mean 93 == 100. The 100 they're referencing in the OM is incorrectly called "race gas" here in the states.

Probably done with 93 octane gas to get to 755, my tts with the 100 octane tune and 100 octane Sunoco gas made 53 whp more than with 93 octane and 93 tune

In California, Sunoco sells 100 octane fuel. It can only go in a track car, and not even a street car being driven for the day on the track. Each time you fill up your tank, you need to fill out a form swearing that the fuel will only go in a non-street car. And oh yeah, you pay $10 per gallon for the privilege. Glad I moved to Texas....

So does the computer on the ZR1 read or sense 100 octane to be able to boost power. I ask because on other vettes I boosted the tuner tuned for 93 and said any more octane will not add more power, it will only make car run safer. Another words no power benefit to higher octane just more safety.

While all todays cars have knock sensors, some several, if the car is not sensing knocking, some can add timing depending on the tables set in the computer of the car. When my car got to Cali the shop who only does Porsche couldn't understand how my car made 11 more hp than any other stock car of the same, then they asked did I have 93 in the tank, well they said compared to 91 there was 9-11 hp difference, just things you don't think of. More octane, less chance of knocking in high heat, your engine likes that.

Car & Driver and other magazines have noted that the press cars they had were on 100 octane unleaded during track laps.

The ZR1 will make more power on 100 octane. My 1991 ZR1 had a graph that clearly showed the power difference between 91 and 93 octane. If I recall it was like 25hp.

Certainly not all of California...local 76 station in San Jose sells VF Racing 101 octane fuel, with none of the restrictions or waivers you mention. I'm aware of 2 others in NorCal with a similar setup. Pump and go.

Very interesting. Can’t explain why it would be different in So Cal.

the 100 makes sure your getting 755 at the track. Where it will run warm and need the higher octane. 93 may not be enough to make sure no knock is present.
