Thank you. I also had a typo there. I meant to say “thanks poor-sha for not sicking the folks on me”

Wow, not sure how I missed this thread.
I'm glad you're ok Sean...in the end that is all that really matters.
What is incredible is the safety of these new modern cars. Almost makes you wonder if a fully caged chassis from the 1980's is less safe than today's modern body and frame structures at absorbing and dissipating energy. Kudo's to GM for a great job!

In any event like I have said to me this isn't really car related. My friends and I haven't needed to be driving a ZR1's to get in the crashes we have. We have been pretty decent at destroying whatever cars they were just fine without them being ZR1's. This crash was a result of conditions and location with no runoff.

I've been in a similar, if not worse accident in a previous generation Corvette. Believe me: these cars are engineered like tanks. I walked away with a bruised rib from the seatbelt and a sore nose from the airbag. Otherwise I was perfectly OK. The car was not, however; but it did its job.

Unfortunately accidents happen, which is why I have a dedicated track car after my dad crashed his new M3 years ago on track. Safety is the biggest concern and then I would rather be out a few grand than a new car. Good luck on the C7 track build, that sounds like an awesome way to go.

Sean,
First, I'm glad everyone is OK!
I've really enjoyed your exploits on the track and your wonderful discussions about the what/why of your driving and experiences.
I can't wait to see what you build!

Extremely sorry to read of this event and hope to see your new project soon. Back in 1991, I wiped out a 1991 ZR1 going too fast hitting a re-tread from a semi left on the road. The front wheel caught it and flipped it on the rear glass and exploded it into a million pieces and lost aerodynamics. About 25K in damage after going thru the R/W fence coming to a rest. It's a tough lesson.

Sean,
I don’t post as much as I used to as I no longer own a C7, but your insights and information to the forum have been invaluable to those of us who drive these incredible cars at high performance events. I’m so sorry about the car, but am very grateful that you and your passenger are totally fine. That’s the important thing.
Hope you get the insurance issue sorted ASAP and that you get a replacement track car as soon as possible; we need you back out there showing us how it’s done!

Eh, the guy's serious about getting better. Very hard not to crash if you're going to explore the limits of the car and the track in order to get really good. Case in point, the dominant MotoGP champion this year in motorcycle roadracing was also the number one crasher (including qualifying events). I've seen the guy save himself on some lowsides without crashing (he's learned a lot) and keep going to win the race. It's not different with cars; succeeding is learning from failures. Can't learn much if you don't fail. I don't want to pay the price (but rarely I do) so I can't run with the big boys. But I won't stay on the porch either. Just have a good time without getting a ticket. Competitiveness can get in the way though (red mist).

Well the interesting thing is that Sean has been driving this ZR1 all out on the tracks and didn't have one mishap. Then on a road it happens. Shows that the track is a much safer place to go fast. Also shows that someone with mad skills can have a mishap on the road, so I better watch it. Sorry for your loss Sean, I can't wait till your back in the saddle. Sean, I've been off the forum mostly since my wreck at VIR in October; so sorry to hear this, but super glad you guys were unhurt.
After almost 2 months, Allstate has agreed to cover the loss, so like you, I am now faced with what to do with the car.
Looking forward to your next endeavors vis-a-vis performance driving, as I cannot image this being a 'carer-ending' event for you.
Have a Merry Christmas.
Hey Bill Dearborn - what's the scoop in your car???
Will we be instructing together next year?

Got car back day before Thanksgiving and it is good as new. From a car standpoint everything is a go for next season. Spousal unit said I couldn't do track events (not even sitting in the right seat as an instructor) until next year, however, she has sort of implied since then I may not be paroled that soon. I am looking at the BMW event at the end of March to hopefully be back on track. I really need to get my adrenaline fix.

FWIW, this is exactly how I put my Z06 into the tirewall exiting T5b @ VIR in October.
Out lap, hot track thought I had the wheel straight and that I was gentle rolling into the throttle over the crest of 5b & <wham>; she was 120 degrees sideways. I was running in PTM Sport 2, but it happened so quickly, there was no chance of saving it. The driver behind me said he couldn't believe how quickly it came around.
