ZR1 track break-in period and getting instruction
Shane at the NCM tells me that it’s 1500 miles and the first oil change.
i’d like to book time with Andy Pilgrim on their track there but I think I’ll have to do it in their car.
I am also hoping to drive the car to the Spring Mountain and ZR1 school. By then it will have the 1500 miles and the oil change.
Thoughts, Ideas?

The Corvette New Owner school includes a car provided by the school. No need to drive your car.

500 mile first oil change with 0W40, second oil change is 1500 miles and if you are planning to track it put 15W50 in. You also want to do a proper alignment and change the brake fluid out for a quality DOT 4 like Castrol SRF. The factory brake fluid is absolutely horrible. I left pit lane and boiled the fluid braking for the first turn. As others have said you can just fly to Spring Mountain as you use their ZR1 for the school.
I'm surprised to hear that Andy Pilgrim is doing private coaching at NCM, is he getting in the right seat or just doing corner observation or data analysis? I know when he was GM driver they would not get in the right seat. In any case, Andy is great guy and a great driver.

My second change was done around 2000 mi...now I just plan to do annual changes or oil life monitor recommendations whichever sooner or track day oil weight changes mandate. I also had various GM people be all over the map on this issue.

I should clarify my reply above. Shane is telling us that we can't even put the ZR1 on a track with less than 1500 miles or the warranty will be voided in its entirety. This is the matter in question as my salesman says incorrect.

You're right Rinaldo, I got wrapped up in the fact that you need 1500 miles on the car before you take it to the track and track duty requires 15W50 so I always changed the oil at 1500 miles to 15W50 before I took it to the track.

I used to think any oil can be close enough to serviceable until I started dealing with a Lycoming aircraft engine. The engine ate camshafts when using oil without a certain additive. Only shell (IIRC) provided an oil suitable with the correct additive premixed. Made a believer out of me. Sometimes close enough really isn't.

As if this wasn’t confusing enough, Mobil 1 has different 0W-40 blends. The one specified for LT engines is ESP 0W-40, a new blend, not to be confused with the Euro blend 0w-40 that has been around for a longer time. When I scheduled my changes, I spoke with parts dept in advance to make certain they had ordered some for me. As of last summer, the oil was only available at GM dealers. Has anyone found any at chain parts stores or walmart etc yet? Mobil previously said the oil would be more widely availble by now.
