Life with my ZR (and Akrapovic) 6 months report
Wow, 6 months and almost 3K miles since delivery. Shipped the Big AZZ Wing Beast from Michigan to Florida so I could DRIVE.
Random thoughts after 6 months of different driving experiences.
The ZR is a blast to drive. It never fails to amuse me. It grabs the road and scares the **** out of me. Way more than my C7Z or C6ZR. No matter how far I've pushed it handling is on point. Cups are fun in Florida, not so much on cold Michigan roads. Driving in the rain was not as bad as I thought it would be. Will be looking in to new tires when the car returns North. (after I burn the cups off ;> )
No ceramic pro or Expel. So far, no rock chips. Coated with HydroSilex seems to keep things shiny, slick and easy to clean.
Best thing I've done ---Added the Akrapovic Exhaust. Loved the stock sound but this really raises the bar. Firing it up is sure to scare most in hearing range lol. Seems the crackle is amped up too Definite performance gains.
Driving in a ZR---tinted windows and dark sunglasses. The thing is a head turner where ever it goes. Even at shows among the Exotics Be prepared for lots of people taking pictures and/or asking questions. Or just complimenting the Beast. Have yet to run into another in the wild, met up with 2 owners in Florida and a handful in Michigan.
Looking forward to running it in the Half Mile and on some tracks up North! hope everyone is enjoying there as much as I am.
PS-it does well in Sand lol

Ok Deb... you are the one to ask about this: With the Akrapovic exhaust do you retain the “exhaust mode” change feature in the infotainment system.(if your answer is “why would I want it?”, I’ll figure out the rest. 😂

Love the thread Deb...and especially that pic with the reflection on the water!! I’m jealous to see you’re enjoying the car in FL, as the winter here in MN has been particularly brutal this year. Show no mercy on those Cup 2’s
PS - I’m so tempted to put the Akra system with CF tips on my ZR too. Loved it on my C6ZR! Kinda waiting first to see what happens with ZR production numbers before deciding whether to add some mods and make the car a permanent fixture. My intent was/is to keep the car and put it away after getting a C8 next year. But, if the numbers climb too high on the ZR, it will have less of a chance of sticking around.

Thank you, That was at the Loop down near Ormand Beach
I would not have got the system if it hindered use of the mode selections. It's always in track lol
Thank you so very much Vern, not missing that Cold up there!
You can see the real Beauty of these tips in IlkSurfers post below
Glad to help, looking forward to hearing your thoughts
Glenn, I am very fortunate to have escaped that nonsense this year. No weather for Cups. A friend had the Akra on his C6ZR, the C7Z, aftr hearing it non stop I could not resist. The Million $$$ question on HOW many ZRs will be produced For me I can't see parting with the last of the FE Manuals. Looking forward to your Mods if you go that direction. Always fun to see what others do, and give me ideas lol . Hope the weather is cooperative for you VERY soon!!!!!
Thanks Gerry, I can not say enough the AKRA was the BEST thing I have ever done to ANY car It is more entertaining each time I drive. Yesterday a Guy walked by and complimented the Beast, as he was walking away I fired it up. LMAO watching him jump and look back was priceless! Thanks so much!

Will you ship the car back, leave it in Florida or drive it home? If you drive through Georgia, watch for the troopers. They look for blacked out window cars. Ask me how I know.

I know that most of the members here will think that I am crazy, but will ask anyway. In tour mode, is the Akrapovic system as quiet as the stock exhaust. I really like the quiet on trips between Las Vegas and Calif. The wife and I like to listen to audio books on the trip. I am not sure what GM did, but this car is much quieter in tour mode than my 2016 Z06.

Quiet mode is excellent in Stock exhaust. Akrapovic does not get as quiet as the stock in tour mode.
