Cig lighter removal for key storage
I’m trying to determine a way to remove the cigarette lighter and door assembly to modify it and make it a spot to store the key. It would be a great little modification as I have other more important things in the consul and in dash storage. area. Has anybody done this or is there an easy way to get this top assembly consul out. It really should be an option from GM if you don’t want a cigarette lighter it’s awesome place for the key to go.

Great idea! Adjustable/pivot cell phone mount (with slot pocket for key) would be nice (tap in to power for charging?)...

Anything but a cigarette lighter than most of us don’t use. I have a friend with a 3-D printer might try to make something I’ll keep you posted on it

That isn't a cigarette lighter. It is a power port that you can plug electrical devices into. I use it to power several items. If it was a cigarette lighter you would also have the lighter portion which has been missing from almost all new cars for close to 10 years.

OK I’ll buy that. But with the limited space on the console why not put a power port in the glove box or somewhere other than that? Do you really want a cord and a plug hanging out of that thing all the time? And that’s definitely not where I’m plugging in my battery charger. Just my two cents when I get it done up I’ll share that with everybody.

Leaving the fob in or close to the car will run the car battery down.

Why not leave the key in the spot for it on the column if you don’t want it in your pocket?
Also side note, I have put the key in the column location because the battery in the FOB was weak. Since I normally have it my pocket I got out and forgot it there. When I came back I was locked out because if the FOB is dead it still won’t open the doors sitting in that location. Advice: don’t leave the key anywhere in the car without access to the valet key.
