Default Will ZR1 fit on a 78 inch wide open trailer?

Have a Kwik Load trailer that tilts back to the ground. I feel pretty comfortable that we can tie down car with T-hooks we just bought going into the jacking points I assume. Plan to cross front and rears. My concern is that car is listed at 77.4 inches wide and my trailer is just 78 inches wide but there is 84 inches between my fenders. My fenders are also removable for loading and unloading car.

Thoughts? Also, can I leave car in 1st gear with parking brake on or does that damage transmission? Not crazy about leaving car in neutral with just straps which loosen.

Hoping to go pick up a new silver ZR1 M7 coupe this weekend. Just ordered a 2020 GT500 yesterday with carbon fiber track pack and thought I was done looking at ZR1's but my wife said YOLO. God Bless her !!

My trailer is like the model shown below:

I did a search and found the following

77.4 Width
179.8 Length

it did not offer if that is width of body or width of tire to tire ( rear) that is likely the dimension that you need...

One thought, you could put it on backwards because the front is narrower than the front...and you don’t seem to have clearance issues with the front of your trailer...Hope this helps.

Take both fenders off...load the car backwards...reinstall fenders...travel to your destination and reverse steps. Enjoy your New ZR1???

77.4 is the GM published body width.

I have done thousands of miles of car trailering, both enclosed and open. I have always left the car in neutral, parking brake set, with proper tie downs. In gear, I would worry about the very slight back and forth movement damaging the transmission.

Are you just using T-hooks up in the 4 frame holes to get it tied down tight?

I had to buy another trailer to haul my ZR1, a sundowner 22'. My 24' enclosed is too tight with only 81" between wheel wells. The front splitter measures 77.4. With removable fenders you should be good to go. With my A8 I simply use the camera system and drive it on and have it marked for where to stop so door opens between tires. With the M7 you will probably want to use a winch.

Oh yeah, installing the J hooks requires a slight tilt to feed one tit into the slot and then rotate to get the other in. The slot has more room at one end than the other for some reason. A little fiddling with it and you will see what I mean.

Absolutely love the LBR ZR1 - wish I could find an M7 but only 5 in the country for sale currently and none are M7's with ZTK

I see most are using a 22' open trailer. Would a 20' work as well?

Great question, and my trailer is only 18 feet so hopefully that is okay for a '19 ZR1 - I have hauled Dodge Vipers on my 18 footer

If it worked for viper, i don't see why it wouldn't work for vette.

Too tight how? Car wouldn’t fit at all with 81”?

I have a winch to pull the car into the enclosed but the 81" wheel well clearance only allows less than 2" from each with the ZR1. One would have to align perfectly staight into the trailer and make sure it backs out perfectly straight in order to not mess up some very expensive CF pieces. It can be done but not necessarily very comfortably, especially time after time after time. Not counting opening the door to enter or exit. The open trailer with removable fenders makes it so easy to drive on, open doors and allow easy access to tie downs. I will keep the enclosed 24' for the C5Z since it has no windows or interior at all for that matter since the full cage.

Got it. Do you think it’s feasible as a one time thing?

I have an 82'' open deck. Quite honestly i think that's the minimum you want. It would probably work with a 80'' deck, but even at 82'' i have to run from side to side and correct with the steering wheel while im winching it up.

put the straps thru the wheels [with towels under the straps],,
you could also tie-down on the susp-but make sure you don't cut a strap,,,
ive seen t-hooks pull out of the frame,
leave the car in gear ,with the parking brake on,
and re-tighten the straps 2-3 miles after driving
load the car frontwards, they don't drive down the road at 60mph -backwards
