Default Data recorder question............

All:

I was wondering if any of you use the performance data recorder in our ZR1's in "normal" everyday driving - as a running data recorder from a security standpoint?

If you do, please tell me how you use it? (I haven't found the manual very helpful, or I am too dense to understand it! LOL).

And if it remains running, will it just loop over itself once the recorder is full?

Thanks in advance,

kev

Subscribed.

Haven't used it so, but I believe the manual says it will loop once the SIMM card is filled.

I saw that, but I think it's only in Valet mode?

I will be working on it this weekend, I will let you know. Valet mode sems perfect - except for that I think it reduces performance (and a lot of other stuff).

The PDR will just stop recording when the SD card is full in normal modes. It does erase the oldest file and keep recording in valet mode.

Also - the max file size for FAT32 format limits recordings to a bit over 90 minutes - so stop recording / start recording every hour and a half if you are on a road trip.

Other things to know:

- SD card must be formatted FAT32 - this is the default for 32 gig and smaller

- 32 gig is good for over 11 hours of recording, but each file is limited to 90 min or so. Recording will just stop with no message at max file size.

- you can format SD cards larger than 32 gig to FAT32 with third party free software - Windows is limited to 32 gig. I used a 1tb SD card for a while, then went back to 32 gig. I carry a couple extras for trips.

- I tend to use the TRACK overlay at all times so throttle, brake, steering, and g force are displayed

Download Cosworth Toolbox to see all of the info (Windows only).

Enjoy!

Ron:

I can't tell you enough how much I appreciate your post - great information, this really helps me out.

My apologies though - I just couldn't figure out what my options / limitations were by reading the owners manual (of maybe I'm just old! LOL)

Thanks again,

kev

Default One more pdr tip

The manual isn't always clear. It is best to play around.

If you pull the SD card while recording, the current file being recorded will be corrupted and unrecoverable.

ONE MORE TIP:

BEFORE REMOVING SD CARD:

All files on the SD card must be closed!

Press STOP recording if the engine is running or less than 10 min or so after engine stop (RAP power still on).

Files will close automatically when RAP power shuts off.

Lots of threads on this but I still got caught when I got the 2019.

Just wanted to mention - LBR is an awesome color for this car IMHO, great choice. It has to be fairly rare too - I certainly have never seen one in the wild!

All the best to you and yours, thanks again,

I use mine in both of my Corvettes every time I drive them and my wife does as well. I just delete it once I get where I'm going if nothing happened on that drive. When driving over about an hour and a half I end that one and start over. It just cuts off if trying it for longer than that time frame.

Thanks for the reply!

So just to go full circle on this, I purchased a 64G SD card, and formatted it FAT32 (this article was a really helpful resource):

Programming SD cards for PDR | Stingray Corvette Forum (stingrayforums.com)

Absolutely no problems, and I am using it the same way you mentioned - starting it every trip, and just deleting it if it was uneventful (hope I delete them all in the future! LOL).

One thing I noticed........is that I talk (out loud) under my breath. Everything you say (every swear word - especially when you see a state patrol officer and you are speeding) gets recorded by the cabin microphone!

This system is a giant leap from anything we had in my youth (in the 80's)........its amazing how far cars have come!

All the best,

kev
