It’s usually advised not to get the first model year of any car due to problems that might arise. Even though the E-Ray will have the same engine as the Stingray, the hybrid tech is what’s making me bit skeptical about the first MY. What’s your guys’ opinion on this?

I'd wait until at least the second model year, but the way things are going, getting on the list now may put you in the second year.

Yes, but I am also optimistic. I don't plan on buying a first year E-Ray (because I didn't get in line early enough), or not at all if the price is too high (I'm looking at you Z06), but if affordability is fair, then a 2025 or 2026 may be on the menu, and hopefully by then the growing pains may have worked out enough to be worthy of purchase. The product has to be viable for demand to exist, if it isn't, then it will fail or be sufficiently underwhelming as to die a slow death (see the hybrid Acura NSX), but as in all things, time will tell.

I’m on the E-Ray list at Les Stanford, my # is in the 160s. That would be a 2nd model year right?

Tough to say. Last year they sold @500 Corvettes, so depends on the mix. One-third would be @166. Pretty sure I will be first year - I am #31 on the list.

I don't have a single qualm about getting the first year E-Ray if I decide to purchase one but, I won't put a deposit on one. If I stumble across one at a good price, I'm prolly gonna buy one.

Nice, you’re only a year away from getting the car!

I won’t mind getting a first year at all. The only components that’ll be new are likely to have a few years worth of kinks to work out anyway. The Stingray platform should be worked out by then, and the wide body will have at least a year (maybe two) under its belt.

Hoping I got on quick enough at Criswell (last December) for a first model year, but not holding my breath.

On a nationally well known dealership, might get my number called the 1st year. However I Will defer to 2nd or 3rd year. Never want to be a guinea pig 😆

Bought first year C6 and C7 no problems. There is nothing radical about the ERay - and nothing that will not be covered by the warranty.

Im worried because:

1) We dont know where it will be built at
2) GM changed their hiring policies from what I heard, to be...more "Inclusive" .. You dont NEED a collage education. So are the people working on my E-ray lacking basic electronics? Should I just by a few fire extinguishers for the home?

A good bit of the chip-level and board-level electronics aren't designed by GM, but some of the larger power stuff is. If they could do the real electronics, they wouldn't be short chips.

Reliability for a new hybrid platform will be a crucial point for the Corvette team and the E-Ray is the Guinea pig. Battery degradation, stability, power management, etc. in light of the LG Bolt battery flaws is not nothing, but it will be enlightening to see how GM pivots to its new Ultium setup and what bugs arise, issues Tesla has some lead on addressing with their own manufacturing and sourcing. I sold my C7 not in small part to the A8 transmission vibrations that were never truly corrected, even though most owners never had such an issue. We would have to hope that GM will take previous flaws/failures and make very sure that their new systems address the challenges BEV tech presents; GM is not alone in this as all companies invest in BEVs, they will have to contend with solving mass production flaws and vehicle safety while competing for performance, range, and charging. The more things change, the more they stay the same it seems.

Agreed, and I hope they toss that AFM Thing.. The idea of the car shutting down a few cylinders, kicking on the hybrid and switching 3-4 settings within milliseconds over and over.. scare me..lol

GM drops 4 year degree requirement ....... “If you deal with what’s required of the job versus, say, a four-year diploma, as your ticket in, it permits you the chance to open the aperture to a different pool of expertise.”

Hope it works out for them. You really have to ask exactly "what is required of the job". A certain group of design teams (not at GM) that I'm very familiar with won't even consider anyone without a minimum of a Master's in Engineering and a >3.5 gpa. In other positions, a degree may not be necessary.
