Default C8 limits

Own a c7 and before I buy a c8 I was curious on the c8 limitations when adding a power adder. The rings on the LT1 force your had when doing the c7. Is there anything like that on the c8 I should expect?

The clutch will give up before the engine will. On e85 the stock bottom end will make 750-800 pretty safely.

Seems like some are having issues with the rear main seal leaking when adding significant boost. As breecher 7 states, the clutches on the DCT are probably the weakest link, with most recommending to upgrade them before you get to 600lb-ft. The other issue with modding the C8 is cost. Everything costs significantly more to do than on the C7, with most of the FI kits being in the $20K-$30K range, and cam/heads being in the $10-$15K range, depending on if you do FlexFuel and FBO.

1. Clutches
2. $$
3. Lack of measurable performance gains in terms of speed (not hp)

For what it's worth, you can get a set of Raybestos frictions and steels for for $550 and they are supposed to have 20% more holding power. The Clutch basket itself is stupid easy to rebuild. If you are looking to stay around 700hp/tq this is likely the route I would go vs dumping all that money on a Dodson assembly. Over that your on the hook for a $7000 clutch....

1,000% this
Even at LOW boost you will blow the rear main seal. Wound up doing lower compression pistons, venting case, lots of mods, fully building the engine to combat blowing rear main.

The bigger issue is cost vs outcome, due to the crap gearing - power is meaningless until/unless you get up in the 850 900 1000 range. even then, could use different gear ratios.

Clutches start slipping around 550 to 600 rwhp. So most go to.dodson sportman clutches. People seem to make pretty reliable hp 650 to 750 rwhp without doing a short block. But also same as everyone else, this car needs a tcm tune. Gearing is awful up high.
