Default Will GM build a 'mid-engine' convertible

Based on all the 'spy' photos and 'leaks', I don't think there is any question that there will be a 'mid-engine' Corvette. The real question is 'when'!

Here's my concern.... Convertibles always seem to trail the release of new generation Corvettes.... Think back to the C4, C5 and even the C7, although the 'vert' was only a short 6 months later. Look how long it took GM to add a 'vert' to the Z06 line!

With the relatively low percentage of sales that the 'vert' represents, I'm really concerned that there may never be a 'mid-engine' convertible in the brand's future.

I've owned Corvettes for nearly 50 years and the vast majority have been convertibles. The fact is that I wouldn't consider buying a fixed roof or targa. Parked in my garage along with my C7 'vert' is an Aston Martin roadster and a Ferrari roadster, so I'm serious about drop tops.

What do you think? What would be your preference? Would you pay a premium similar to today's for a 'vert?

I'll probably buy a convertible for my next Corvette.

If it is not a convertible I don't want it! I purchased a 2017 Stingray convertible to hold me over till the dust settles on the mid-engine introduction.

This is all based upon the GM vehicle tool kit modular construction outline, moving forward. It divides chassis platforms into engine bay, passenger cell, and rear storage, etc. This car will utilize the passenger cell construction overall, then attach the front and rear assemblies that are specific to the ME car. The torsional structure of the Stingray allows removable roof panel, so the ME car will have it too. I'd imagine you can expect the same vert mechanism, or a slight modified version to surface at some point also.

Just wondering if a ME car creates any issues as to where the convertible top would get stored. Obviously the C7 type tonneau cover may still be an option

Ferrari, Lamborgini, and Audi have figured it out. I'm sure GM can do it too. I can't imagine cruising around in something that has a top on it!

Spyders are usually what get built. While similar to convertibles they are not identical.

Default My 2 cents

For me the ME if available, will be evaluated more by price than anything.

In 2001 the z06 listed at 49,128 or something close to that. In today's dollars, that's 67,831.59. Part of the appeal of a corvette is its performance against vastly more expensive cars. As you can see they are already outpacing inflation. If they make it at the point it costs as much as some of the cars mentioned in my opinion they've already lost.

Now there are other ME cars that aren't ungodly expensive so why do some assume that this will go through the roof price wise? I've seen quite a few c7 z06 and we all know how much they cost.
