It may well be called the Zora, at least initially. I would like to own one.

But it has to have a stick available for me to consider it.

Foe some reason i think Chevrolet is working on Ford GT competitor with a Corvette badge. No way they'll take a risky step for such an iconic car, i hope not.

Corvette has more experience with RWD front engine and 0 Experience
with mid engine. This might need a few years.

Now I'm glad I bought a second Z06, both cars the ZR1 and the Mid engine on the horizon are shaky a far as looks.

Yes.

It's a new trim level, not a replacement for the C7.

Judging by what I read, if it looks really cool, Zora wouldn't like it. If the "father" of the Corvette had his way he might have killed the corvette.

"But blood was about to be spilled over the issue of the split window. " My blood," said Zora in a 1992 issue of Corvette Quarterly. Duntov hated the split window for the same reason he hated the long hood-it obstructed the driver's view."

"Zora clashed again with Mitchell in 1966 and 1967 as the third-generation car was being developed. Zora once again preferred a mid-engine design, while Mitchell was pushing a production version of his Mako Shark II show car built on the same chassis as the 1963. Mitchell again won out."

"But Zora wanted to be known for more than making Mitchell's designs "go." And although Duntov had cast his own indelible mark on General Motors and the Corvette, the fact is he lost the war to Mitchell. Had Duntov been more successful, the look and configuration of the Corvettes we drive today-right or wrong-might have been considerably different."

I don't think what we've seen so far on the mules gives much indication - outside of general proportions common to all ME car - as to what the ME vette will look like.

So I agree there - we'll have to wait and see how the styling turns out. I'm with you on the all new platform in the sense of letting them build it for a year or two. There will no doubt be some bugs to work out and lessons to learn.

I'm really looking forward to them building this, though. If the styling is decent and performance is there. I'm a buyer. Just not year 1 - I'll let them work some bugs out first.

Being a track-focused (assumption on my part) car, the ZR1's big-a$$ rear wing isn't what bothers me about the design...it's the front-end.
I find it ugly as sin.

Probably a good idea.
It's going to take time to get the chassis sorted out.

Since all roads lead to electric, I think the article's suggestion is correct that the mid-engine car will have a gas engine in the middle, two electric motors driving the front wheels, batts under the floor, and all wheel drive. It will resemble the drive-train of the NSX and will mark GM's foray into both mid-engine and hybrid sports car terrain. It will be built in such a way that taking the chassis fully electric will be do-able. Since it seems all-but-done that we will be all-electric in the next 10 years or so, that seems reasonable.

Well, there are still folks around who worked in the Fiero, I suspect, and while it started as a dog, by the time GM killed it, it was actually a pretty good car. GM also could swipe some people from other companies with mid-engined experience unless the hold on too tightly to their wallets.

Frankly, after watching how well the Ford GTs have run in IMSA and Le Mans the past 2 years, I think a mid-engined C8R is overdue.

I just bet that GM would be "electrified" to average 45 cars a month in sales in the US and Canada with a hybrid mid engine sports car, like the NSX is achieving.

In case you haven't been paying attention, about 14 nations (including China and India) have set goals to be all-electric within pretty short time frames. Frankly, to keep a global market reach, GM and Ford (and Tesla, if they survive as an independent company) need to develop and sell the best elec cars in the world--and soon--or we will have no US car companies left.

Do I like this or think it wise? Heck, no. But, the global oligarchy has spoken....

It's great and I am sure many of us said that to ourselves.

Now I wonder how Joe with bring the AMG GT and it's greatness and his C6Z weight into this tread??

I miss owning a Vette. Had one my entire adult life except for the past two years

I'm ready for the ME Zora to bring me home
