Most of GM's "new" cars tend to look a lot like the previous generation. So this is hardly surprising.

Exactly...and that's a problem IMO.

Not so much with Corvettes.
Each of the recent gens look very distinctive from one another.

I'm speaking of the phenomenon of the past 5-6 years. Look at the Trucks and the Camaro.

Since we've not had a Corvette redesign in this time period then I don't really understand how that's a relevant comment.

THIS.
We've had 2 generations of angular cars (C6/7). Hopefully there will be some C5 inspired curves.

I'm thinking we may get all-LED headlamps -- something Tadge said he wanted to do on the C7 but couldn't get it done. I think this time he'll get it done.

Default Testing in all weather

Does GM test in the desert? We have seen snow and ice but have they tested the ME in extreme heat?

I would suggest after the c7 z06 overheat debacle on the race track on occurance....GM will never let that type of thing even if quite rare ever happen again..

Desert testing will be done in depth as will hot weather track testing.

To this day I don't think Jim mero ever had an overheat situation on the track with a c7 z06

GM test drivers will beat the crap out of the c8 on the track in the hottest conditions ever..lol

Agreed.
GM took a pounding over that self-inflicted wound and lost sales because of it.

I wasn't speaking to GM truck and Camaro designs.

I hadn't really thought of the C6 as an "angular" design, but OK, fair enough.

There’s is no doubt that GM’s highly skilled test drivers can operate a car at lower temperatures than us “B” or lower grade track drivers. GM needs to consequently take B or even C grade drivers in dessert heat on tracks and test new vehicles’ temperature operating capabilities that way.

I get the comparison. To be fair it might be ok to say that the C6 look is a hybrid of the C5, which is very curvy, and the C7, which only has sharp edges. Unfortunately, GM seems to be running with scissors toward more angular designs based upon what we are seeing with their other cars.

FWIW, I do think of the C6 as a hybrid design and the C7 certain DOES have a lot of sharp edges.
IMO, both look good.

That was corrected in the new ZL1 and ZR-1 with the added coolers and large air intake ducts on the nose. Overheating and heat soak are now a thing of the past for GM.

BTW firstvettesoon...I think you're doing an AMAZING job.

I think you are right, the C7 influences are there. For me that's a bad thing, but what is saving the car to some degree is the mid-engine aspect.

The C7 doesn't work for me for several reasons, among them is that I feel it is a bad design. Normally I would say to each his own, but even if I don't like it, the C7 would get a pass if something about it said 'Corvette' to me. A car is more than the sum of it's badges. Front, rear wheel drive, doesn't say Vette either. The vast majority of cars have this layout. So the intangibles that make a Vette a Vette, curves, lamps, clamshells, etc. is where I and many others got grumpy about the C7.

The mid-engine is different. It gets a pass to some degree because it is a mid-engine. A select portion of the audience will decry it solely because it is mid-engine. I get it. I think this will be the first time in the Corvette's life though that it can be whatever it wants to be and the fanbase as a whole will forgive it. Because no matter how much it could look like a Corvette of the past, it would still be so different that it won't matter. Also, that probably makes it so that GM only gets one chance to get this right or the mid-engine program will be dead forever.

The result, I'm ok with C7 design cues being in a mid-engine Vette to some degree because whatever intangibles that made the C7 not a Vette, no longer matter.

Now the only question is can GM make it pretty. GM's track record of making pretty cars over the last 10 years has been abysmal. I can't think of one GM branded car or truck that I would currently consider buying. The last car that GM made that I wanted was the CTS-V Coupe and they killed it. So on that front, I'm a bit nervous.

Personally, I hope they steal as much as they can from Ferrari. Ferrari makes some of the best looking cars on the planet. And even if I could afford one, the maintenance would drained whatever remained in my bank account. So, the idea of getting a Ferrari LaFerrari for a tenth of the price sounds like a no brainer to me.
