500 seems like such a low number. You got 4 bangers making 300 to 350...about the weight yeah it's gonna get heavier just like the current gen did. She's getting fatter and fatter but people want all types of tech in it so it will just continue to add weight

So the base car will have the 500hp LT1. And I guess the 600hp DOHC will be the Z06 and the 800hp twin turbo will be the ZR1.

3500lb just seems to much and if there is an awd car with electric motor and a battery that one will be even heavier like 3700+

I think Motor Authority's "sources" are the folks on this forum. That article is nothing more than cliff notes from the threads on here. lol

We should start some unlikely (not too crazy) rumor about the car and see if it shows up in print/online media.

I truly think this forum is PROVIDING the media MORE information then the reverse.

I wouldn't base that thought from this article, they just pulled that number out of thin air.

No way the base C8 weighs more than 3,200lbs. They CAD leaks say it all. They really focused on creating structures and parts that are highly durable but very lightweight by design, without major use of Carbon fiber or other expensive materials. There's a lot of C7 parts, like the torque tube, that the mid-engine C8 will not even have. Eliminating parts is a good way of saving weight. Simplify and add lightness!

Yeah, that is sweet.
As long as it is small displacement, I'm good.
I want the scream of a Ferrari.

If it's 5.5l it won't be a fpc engine.

I agree 500 hp is way too low to start. And I don't think they will.
Why would they give it less power than even the C6Z ( 2 gens apart )
And only 20 more than a base C7 .
And more weight , Hypothetcaly.
Doesn't make since .
I can see 600 for the base, which still will put it 50hp less the current Z06
And then leave room For improvement with the higher hp Z models.
Which has been said.
I won't buy it if is only 500 hp. Unless the weight is reduced around the 3100 lbs mark.

Area.

All depends on the weight!

500 HP at 3,000 pounds is golden.
500 HP at 3,500 pounds is a turd.

If I were GM I'd try VERY hard to make the RWD version of the ME C8 3300 lbs or less like the current C7. The C7 still feels toss-able, you get much heavier than that, maybe not so much.

Yea and the 1,000 HP version will be the ZR1 1LE version! One can dream. Also I think the DCT in all models will help reduce cost.

I agree. They'd have to keep the stroke down to mitigate vibrations but then the bore would be so high that it's running at a 1.9:1 bore:stroke ratio. That's like a Ducati Panigale. There's no way they're running an insane redline in a mid-level Corvette. Customers expect reliability, and that's not the way to achieve it. And if they didn't have such a high ratio, owners would be complaining of vibrations.

HOWEVER, we have seen multiple times in CAD drawings that the mid-engine Corvette will be using active engine mounts. Those active engine mounts are used for two reasons in production cars: control of weight transfer and reduction of engine vibrations. I believe that both are important no matter the engine, but the ladder could be the reason why a big displacement FPC engine works. However, ZERV said that it'll use a 5.4L V8, not a 5.5L. I know that that isn't a big difference, but it means that one source was incorrect. I personally believe that there will be an updated LT1, a 4.6L DOHC twin-turbo V8, and a 5.4L DOHC twin-turbo V8. That's the most credible information provided to us at this time.
