Brakes...Brakes...Brakes....

No way this is a top tier car slotted above the ZR1 with small steel rotors ....That would be a major step backwards in technology and mean that the braking performance of a car slotted "above" the unbelievable ZR1 and being a " 1000 HP beast" would be worse than the car slated below it.

Love these threads of what the C8 will and will not be.

Sort of like the back and forth if the C7 Z06 would or would not be offered as a convertible.

I dont know why its always a fight yet I imagine thats what forums are for...

the porsche 911 s and various iterations are wonderful sports cars.

their performance is world class as is their interiors.

to be able to admit that is the truth in being a gentleman.

will the c8 crush the 911 s in performance? Of course.

when we look at the top of the line c8 I fully expect it will beat the 911s or 911 turbo s on a road course.

with all that said we can admire both products for what they offer.

will some 911 owners jump ship and buy the c8? I personally believe they will.

porsches pricing is getting ridiculous to many present 911 owners and its not that they cant afford the new 911 but rather just common semse does eventually play its part especially considering the performance advantage the corvette will have.

will all porsche owners bail out on their brand?

of course not...the 911 is still a womderful sports car.

The 305 rear tires suggest it will not have killer horsepower out of the box. Most likely an entry level car in the 500BHP range that could make for reasonable pricing.

They're not trying, they are succeeding in competing performance-wise, killing the competition on price, and beating the competition by selling far more than anyone in the US. No one else is even close to selling the same number of 2-seat sports cars. The Mazda Miata is #2 in sales, and it's far behind even at a much lower price. Exotic status is only conveyed on cars that are either unobtainium or produced in very limited volume.

I have a chart on my home computer that proves the above, but don't have access to it now.

The 488 GTB uses 305 wide tires in back and is 660hp. Torque is what limits grip, not HP. You already know that though. The 488 also boasts 580 lb ft of torque, it's a beast. You don't need ultra fat tires with an ME if you are below 650 torque and the suspension is proper. Aventador uses a 335 with less torque output than the 488 GTB. Tire size isn't necessary indicative of one thing or another.

If the base car is 525hp and 525 tq, that 305 tire size is overkill for OEM standards. Of course, I personally don't ever think there is anything as "too much tire". I ran 335's on my boosted Mustang GT that was about 480whp and tq. It also had a 4.10 gear ratio so 1st gear was ultra torquey and the sucky Mustang suspension needed all the help it could get but I digress.

The fact that the base car is running a 305 tells me 1 of two things that are both highly desirable. 1, it either has substantial grip/traction for the power level or 2, it has adequate grip and lots of power. Either of those combos is ok by me.

Was just thinking of Chevy's trend of upping the tire specs as they up power like the 335 on the Z06 & the base tire has to start somewhere. Agree a mid rear engine will move the weight distribution back onto the rear tires. Also agree on never too much tire & would add never to much braking power. Have 315, biggest that will fit into the wheel wells, 100 treadware tires with 55% of the weight at the rear.

Expect with GM its a marketing thing also. Can't have a killer car with skinny tires, would not look "right".

Default Base will be 500 -525hp

Feel confident of that range 500-525 hp for base.

Sounds about right.

Fingers crossed it's closer to 550hp, but don't count on it.

The Aventador actually runs 355's not 335's.

There have been many spy shots of the team around the car rocking Corvette gear and clothing. Definitely not a Caddy.

Tell, me....what were you posting in 2004, when we were first seeing "shy shots" of the new 2005 C6 under camo, running around on city streets?

Were you also saying that the small steel brake rotors and skinny tires and skinny fenders on the car's running around on the city streets by GM engineers in 2004 were proof positive that there would be no 2006 C6 Z06 "Supercar" that went into production in June 2005, because you personally had not seen any mules running around with big steel brakes, wide fenders, wide tires, larger exhaust pipes, etc before the 2005 C6 was revealed?

Joe, his post was in response to the small minority who are convinced that there will be a new FE C8 for the budget buyer, and only a high-performance ME covering the traditional Z06/ZR1 segment. The small, non-slotted rotors and skinnier tires suggests that the first car produced be a relatively low-cost, base ME. I don't think any halfway informed person doubts that the big dogs will follow soon after, just as we've seen in every other generation.

:agree: Little doubt in my mind those 305’s, solid front rotors and aero of the cars in Germany point to them being the base C8. A higher hop version with wide tires would fit what GM has done in the past.

Also agree it doesn’t “look” like a Killer Car.

Funny, when I got September 2013 built C7 Z51 felt the tires loooked a bit anemic. More power than my C6 but most with variable cam timing more low rpm torque and power. It was validated with the traction off the line. My Grand Sport with it
s 335 section width tires versus the 285 in my Grand Sport is better but still traction limited. Can never have too much tire, as you note!

Suspect I’ll be waking for the 550 hp Blackhawk Verizon of the engine with 550+ hp, fatter fenders with wider tires and movable aero pieces.
