It seems like the original stingray name was used right around when the original mid engine CERV's are being considered. Does the Stingray/Mantaray naming convention have its roots all the way back to then?

I think Zora, aside from just sounding special, makes more sense than Manta Ray, which is a bit trite. Zora at least does have some historical significance as he was an advocate of the ME. Even if you don't know who he was, its a cool name.....just like Enzo.

I would like to see it simply be the eighth generation Chevrolet Corvette.

I agree.

2020 Chevrolet Corvette (C8)

The end.

Stingray sounded pretty cool. Manta Ray does not. Zora does not. Zora is such a lame for a car for a car. Respect to the man, but that name for the car is a loser.

Manta Ray is absolutely awful. I would be embarrassed to tell people the name of my car. I thought Taycan was bad for the Mission E, but Manta Ray takes the cake.

Corvette C8... done! Okay... "names" for the later versions... Z06, Grand Sport, ZR1, etc

But it should always be a Corvette.

I seems to me that this new revolutionary Corvette is going to need something a bit more special than just "the next generation Corvette." Blah........ We all know it's a Corvette. A little distinction is in order. They did bring back "Stingray" because they thought the C7 was deserving of it and the name was hit. It's all about marketing today and "the next generation" is underwhelming.

That name is synonymous with success, but I can think of one last ring that it can conquer...

two hints:

1. Starts with a Nürburg
2. The name has a nice ring to it

I agree...in my opinion bringing back Stingray was move to distinguish by name from eventual ME stablemate Zora. Moving forward I believe it will be 5 years or more before a 100% electric "E-ray" is seen. Hybridization for Zora possibly coming MY-2 but likely MY-3 and after C7 is retired and FE C8 introduced it will likely have hybridization to some degree as well.

Returning from a LONG time AWAY. .

IMO, the ME will not be named after ANY person. That's no disrespect to Zora, but I believe there is a corporate reluctance to use an individual's name.

As an aside, rays do tend to be associated with their rear long tail. Sometimes with a stinger.

When I first saw a great deal of press about the ME, I immeditely went to my Chaparral books. I've got a lot of respect for Jim Hall, the relationship he had with GM and the GM experiments, at least those we know about, with mid rear engines. I wouldn't mind seeing a "Chaparral" model but I believe we'll see a continuation of the ray names.

Default Call it a Corvette. Name the top dog version after Zora.

Why? Zora was a racer and pushed Corvette racing even when GM didnt want him to. Remember the Grand Sports? The man basically made the Corvette performance legend what it is by himself in the 50-60's. The man ALWAYS wanted the Vette to be mid engine for better handling dynamics. I say go ahead with whatever conventional naming strategy works. Call the base models, base, Z51 etc. Price em reasonably for sales. Then, during the second or third year production drop a bomb by introducing a true exotic killer. Take a page from Porsche and the GT2/3 type cars with the build philosophy. A Virtual hypercar with a realistic pricetag of 225,000 or a bit more.Yes it will be pricey but you gotta pay to have the best, right? GM should aim squarely at a roadgoing ALMS car with some luxury amenities. Big time twin turbo power, aero, incredible lap times, racey looks. Check. Hybrid with electric front drive or electric assist for more HP? If they can, they should. Whatever it takes to make the others fear and respect it but without the caveat that exotic owners fall back on..."for a Corvette"

This car should be called Zora. For those that dont know who he was, at the intro do a presentation celebrating the man and his accomplishments in Corvette history as to why that name is special. People with the money WILL line up to buy it.

Or, alternatively just name the mid engine ALMS race car the Zora and use it as a marketing springboard for production cars.

Agreed... the car should be called a Zora across the board, but the top dog should be the Corvette Zora.
