Just thinking....
I am in the camp that the FE is NOT going to die so if you think it is, the rest of this will just be silly....
I think the ME WILL be the regular Corvette with pricing somewhere between the current Stingray and GS
I think the NEW FE car will come out in 2021 or 2022, with a LARGE move upmarket with VERY nice interior, lots of gadgets, making the car a LUXURY GT. I think the car will use an updated C7 chassis. Think FE Ferrari GT's like the 812 and FF.
I have NO information to support ANYTHING I wrote above. Just offering a different scenario.

So, since this is the C8 section, you are saying there will be two C8s, a Mid Engine and a Front Engine. And the latter will be an upscale, GT, with a price tag to match. Hmm...maybe.

Don't know..."C8" is what we call it, what GM guys call it, but it's not the NAME of the car. I haven't really thought about it....maybe the ME is "Zora" or "Manta Ray and the FE is "Stingray"?
If I'm not mistaken, this "C1/2/3/4/5/6/7" happened with the intro of the "C5". I don't think anyone referred to the 1964 as a "C2" or 1981 as a "C3" before we started using this naming with the C5.

Yep, the "C5" is when all the C# mess started. I remember my dad and his buddies referring to the C4 as the "new" Corvette, they called the C3s the "sharks" and the C2s were "mid-years". Don't ever remember hearing anything about C1s.. they were just old

I do like the idea of a C8! Sounds nice.

I posted a resent video with a ZR1 video came out a few weeks ago with Mark L. Reuss Executive Vice President of Global Product Development, Purchasing and Supply Chain at General Motors. He was at the end of the video. He said the C7 ZR1 is the last and best of the C7 and cant talk about what we are doing with C8 or the future of corvette and we are very proud of whats going to happen on C8. Good news C8 is here I think it could be the ME other than that I am not sure what’s going to happen other than speculative
All the rest of what I wrote falls into the "Idle mind is the devil's workshop, etc"...….

I don't think there's a market for a super high end FE Corvette, but who knows. I was originally in the camp that all Corvettes were going ME with the new C8. Now I'm not so sure. They could hedge their bets and release the ME as a high-end version first (180 degrees from normal) and then build the C7 through 2021 then come out with a new FE C8 in 2022... no clue at this point, too many conflicting stories and clues.

GM should designate the ME as M1 or Z1 or something. When and they will eventually bring out another FE it will be the C8, upscale or down. The existing C7 platform is too good not to massage it and use it again. No need to reinvent something. That beancounters understand.

So....I was just thinking...Hey, why not make a "Super GT" like an 812 Superfast and let the ME be the "regular" Corvette.
Again, I'm more than likely DEAD wrong on this.
PS. Three lawyers from the law firm Dewey, Cheatham, and Howe, showed up on my door, representing GM, and they wanted to know where I got my info....

Would be very interesting if all of this was wrong, the joke is on us! LOL The new mid engine is not designated the C8, its simply the Chevrolet Zora. Then, they are working on a replacement for the C7 that will be the new C8....out in a couple of years. who knows, Tadge and his team are having so much fun reading all of this.

Am I missing something .? Why so many on the forum freaking out if GM decides to stop production of the FE and only builds a ME. I owned many mid-engines even though not practical they were incredible sports cars. If GM makes a ME that can hold close to the same amount of cargo, would that change the die hard FE”s minds?

I'm not "freaking out". There is no doubt that FE has more everyday utility than any ME car. I am fine with only ME being offered, as the thread title said..."just thinkin'"

For a long time I thought that the FE car would have to continue, if for no other reason than the fact that the C7 is so perfect.
But I have decided that the C7 ZR1 is the end of the road for this beautiful beast. Everything does indeed eventually get old and you will be able to get good prices on used C7s for a long time to come.
