Im on rennlist and i never say anything negative about porsches while on their site.

what would be the point?

I agree a lot of porsche wannabes talking crap on the forum here for attemtion.

As auto enthusiasts we can easily prefer one brand but admire both.

i like the 991.2 and look forward to seeing the new 992 in person to decide if its better than the previous generation.

I was bored on the plane and read this thread. Pretty interesting opinions to say the least. I have had several C2's, a C3 and a C6. I have also had several P cars Boxster, Cayenne, 993, 997, 991.2 and 991.2 GT3. I am very interested in the C8. "If" GM can deliver a mid-engine car with better than C7 performance with the possibility of exotic styling, it will sell like hot cakes. But the over $100K market is tough... customers are picky, have high expectations and want to be part of an "exclusive" club.
I have several friends that roll various C7's and they are great. Fast, great value and GM has stepped up the fit, finish and quality of materials. But if you are going to bring a 911 customer over to the mid-engine, it will need to have the last bit "detail" with regards to interior, fit, finish and reliability. Porsche gets the details right and for the most part their network is exceptional.
For those of you that think the 4.0 litre, 500HP six sounds like a sewing machine just means you never heard one...
I really hope they pull it off. I, like a bunch of folks on here, will be waiting in line to buy one.

Far more exotic than a Corvette. I probably see a dozen Corvettes a day. I probably only see 1 Porsche every few days.

Not here in Seattle, it’s the opposite. Porsches are a dime a dozen out here.

I don’t believe in buying German cars. Or products in general if I can help it. So buying a Porsche is out of the picture.

Corvettes sell 3:1 vs Porsche. Approximately 9,000 911’s are sold in the U.S.compared to 30,000 c7’s. So yes, there are a lot more Corvettes on the road across the U.S. Your just lucky to obviously live in a higher income demographic than average.

Yeah -- I think on the coasts it is more even -- plus, if you add in Caymans and Boxsters (which to most people don't look or seem much different vs. 911's) the ratio is even MORE even. Neither are all THAT common, but far from "exotic" -- though the high-end of both cars push on "supercar" territory from a performance standpoint.

Iprioritize thrifty sportscar performance at acceptable comfort and quality, which is why I am on this Forum and will likely stay here until I am forbidden to drive...I am sure that goes for a majority of folks here.

I hope you don't own a smartphone because most of them use barometers, accelerometers, and other sensor packages made by Bosch in Germany.

Even worse, Zora Arkus-Duntov was a Porsche sympathizer.

I love all the buy American comments as well! Lots of people with their head in the sand. Competition is what makes anyone raise the bar. I personally will buy what is the best product. America needs to step up.

Agreed, but it's even more complicated. World supply chains are so complex that few products are entirely made in a single nation.

It depends on generation and what that model has to offer, not necessarily brand.

Btw, we are in a used Porsche bubble market that will eventually pop. All those older Porsches were selling for close to nothing not that long ago...the Porsche hype is strong right now. My point is it's hard to predict the future resale value of current cars, so this should not factor in too much when buying a new car.

For those of you who Porsche-philes who poke fun at Corvette being owned by Chevrolet/GM, don't forget that Porsche is owned by lowly Volkswagen. The point is the Corvette design/engineering team is very autonomous and independent from what goes on in the rest of the company.

I can't believe this thread is still ongoing...I think a few Corvette owners should start a similar thread on Rennlist.com regarding the new 992 911, given the Porsche fanboy trolls that are on here keeping this thread alive.
You think the air-cooled 911 bubble is going to burst? Well I would love to hear your reasoning behind that.

I can name two recent models that have doubled in value in the last two years, 911R and GT2 RS, how many Corvettes made in the last two years can you say the same about?

I'm not hating on the Corvette at all, I have a C7 and love it and will probably buy a C8 but to think you can compare the two cars in anything other than performance you're dreaming.

Early on in the ZR1 section there was a post comparing the ZR1 and the GT2 RS, you'd be surprised by the amount of people who said the ZR1 would beat the GT2 RS on the track, I laughed and was one of the few who said NFL (not f'kn likely) and that was before any Ring time was announced and the ZR1 hit the streets. Some people in here are so totally clueless when it comes to other cars, they seem to think that the almighty Corvette is the fastest, best looking, highest quality sports car out there, once again I laugh because they are so sadly mistaken. Don't believe me, read some of the comments posted in this thread alone.

It's shocking that a $328,00 car has marginally better performance than a $131,000 car.

one year on...honestly this has been covered at length especially in Germany.
90% of marketing/magazine GT2RS tests have been conducted with stripped cars with race (non street) tires (see Nurb record).

When regularly equipped with stock features and stock tires the car comes back to earth...
For alI the track specific/ride inconvenient features the cars has, I seriously doubt a stock GT2RS has marginal better track performance than a equally equipped ZR1.
Depending on track and set up I bet you it is a 50/50.

There is nothing marginal about it. The GT2RS demolishes the ZR1 in every comparison and track contest. It is faster at VIR, Laguna Seca, Willow Springs, and don't forget the Nurburgring. The car just plain outclasses the ZR1 and isn't even in the same league of performance.
