I stopped at the Porsche dealer yesterday. Sat In a GT3RS. Looked at a couple other 911’s. Looked at a few other cars. Expensive as f*ck. I drove a 3lt Stingray and bought a 1lt Stingray. To me no comparison. Porsche all the way. My wife, she likes the Vette. I guess it’s all about what you want and what turns you on. I can stand back and appreciate both cars for what they are. Some can’t. I guess that’s why racism exists. I just like cars period.

What does she like better about the Vette? Just curious. I have never been in a Cayman so don’t know what that difference might look like.

She like the smoother ride and the more comfortable seats.

My wife really liked the C7 we had but she much prefers the 911 we bought last Spring. She prefers it due to being a little more “car like”, her words not mine. It has a better ride than the Corvette, has better sound insulation and doesn’t sit quite as low and she likes that. The Corvette was louder inside even after I had installed sound deadner. I liked hearing the exhaust notes, but not so much into tire and highway noise on a longer trip. Have you test drive a 991.2 911? Unless she simply likes the look of a Corvette she might be surprised how a 911 rides and drives. My 911 c2s isn’t z06 quick, but is a fair amount quicker than the C7 z51 I had owned.

I have a 718 CaymanS. We were at the dealer this weekend and she couldn’t get in a GT3RS. Lol. The 911 I liked was $212,000. Too rich for my budget.

Thats way too rich for my blood as well. I find the second step up in the 911 line to be just fine for me. The only other “reasonable” 911 I would consider is the GTS. I don’t track my cars but enjoy spirited black top drives.

I’m happy with my Vette and my Porsche. All these people that are arguing don’t have both. If they did they would love them both. 2 different cars, 2 awesome cars. I’m blessed to have both.

You are correct in that they are both great cars with their own flavor. I am happy you are able to have both!

A better question would be why would anyone ever buy a porsche. J/K. All the Porsche fans I'm sure there is something you like about them but I've just never felt it ... to each his own.

Also I think most of the Porsche performance street cars are rear engine, not mid engine. I bet 5 years from now GM will have sold more ME cars in its history than Porsche has.

.......of course they will sell more Corvettes as they will be less expensive and more attainable by a larger number of people, providing they don’t substantially increase the cost. No different than now. If GM increases the prices to Porsche prices it will be interesting to see where the current buyers go. Many people buying Corvettes now will move to a Porsche or other marque in my opinion.

Me too. Except, I’m the one with the vette and my wife has the boxster. However, we trade all the time.

We are a 'mixed car family' also. We have a C7Z06 and a GT4. We track, autocross, and street drive both cars. The Z06 is our go-to car on the track, as it is faster than the GT4 when you can use the power. At the tighter autocrosses, the GT4 is quicker (Porsches always win SS at the SCCA Nationals over the heavier C7 Corvettes). I prefer the Z06 over the GT4 on the street because of all the linear low-end torque. The GT4 is a very easy car to drive fast, and my wife really likes the GT4 for that reason. If I could have only one of these, I'd choose the Z06 over the GT4, my wife would choose the GT4 over the Z06. So I guess we are keeping both for now.

The price thing again..this has been and it is still a false dichotomy. Corvette has been increasing the price band to Porsche price ranges for quite some time. Although there is plenty of threads pontificating than a 100K Corvette will be the end of it we now know that as long there is content they can sell 100K Z06s and 150K ZR1s like candy.....

What would be interesting to see is how many 100K customers opted for a base 100K 911 instead of a Z06...

Price is a factor and if you knew a little more about Porsche pricing you would quickly learn that Porsche options run a lot more than for a Corvette. A nice base level C7 will have a MSRP around $65,000 or less compared to a lightly optioned base 911 with a MSRP of $110,000. So yes, a buyer with a $60-$70k budget will most likely not be spending $110k. Even a loaded Z06 can be purchesed for less than a lightly equipped base level 911 since they are not as heavily discounted. If you are a Z06 buyer you are probably comparing to a GT car that will be half again to double the price of a Z06. My point being.....IF the ME pricing increases substantially, it will be interesting to see if their is a shift on what car they may elect to purchase. Right now, with current pricing nothing can touch the performance of the Corvette for the price and cost of operation.

gmauthority.com/blog/gm/chevrolet/corvette/chevrolet-corvette-sales-numbers/

Total C7Z06 + C7ZR1 sales to date(2015-2018):8653+15868+7212+7880=39613 AVG MSRP: $103,289

https://rennlist.com/forums/Total Base 911 sales to date (2015-2018 2nd % best after turbo): 985+890+897+964=3736 AVG MSRP $101,307

Price is a factor. Price/Performance a much more important factor.

The reason I used the Z06 and ZR1 MSRP is to specifically debunk the theory/opinion that Corvette sales more because they are “cheaper”. The numbers above completely debunk that opinion. By your own admission some Z06s car run slightly above or lower than base 911 (may as well call it even) yet completely obliterate in sales base 911s by a factor of 10!! Turning your “more poor people = more corvettes” completely on its head… not even close to even!

Are you willing to entertain the idea that maybe (only maybe) these numbers are a result of real market price/performance competition and a guy with 100K or 1M actually prefers a 100K corvette instead of a 100K 911 by a huge factor!?... Peace.

P.S I actually learned a lot about Porsche pricing from my son. The 29 year “rascal” was going to proverbially rebel from his Dad and surprise/ impress him with a “superior”911 buy (also because he lived in Germany for a while..)
He went in a VA Porsche dealer, sat into a 911 “nice interiors; ten styles of shifter *****..but no real tangible road worthy options; price on crack!” his words… ;-) yes...he did walk out...
