Whether Chevy goes for it now, or later, the production car record at the Ring is held by the Lamborghini Aventador SVJ at 6:44.97, while the fastest official time for an American car was set by a Dodge Viper ACR that did it in 7:01.3

6:44.96 for the base car

I'm hoping on it's very best day about 7:25 - 7:30 (I believe the C6 Z06 very best time was about 7:21 or 7:22) so if it can come close to that, that would be remarkable for a Z51 trim base car.

Not going to happen. GM never publishes prototype car laps times.

If you are going to compare to a C6 Z06, then at least compare them fairly. When the C6 Z06 made it's 7:22 run, the old track surface had a turn that was very bumpy and narrow. After the C6 Z06 was timed(and the C6 ZR1 at 7:19), the Ring rebuild that bad section of track(1/4 mile) and also made the track wider at that point. Both of those improvements allowed for faster speeds through that particular turn, resulting in lower times for cars that have been run/times after the rebuild.

If you compare the md engine to the C6 Z06 then at least compare the cars and not the condition of the track.

I doubt GM will give us any times on the base models and Z51 cars. We might get times once they show the higher performance models.
