Clues point to base engine is turbo V6

Something about this clip did not sound like a V8 to my ears. The engine sounds a bit monotone, and if it was a V8, it sounds like it was only revving to about 5000 rpm.
Then hunter105 mentioned his dealer said the base engine is a 550 HP turbo V6. Liquid153 also said it sounded like a V6 to his ears.
It sounds muffled down like a turbo engine would.
Filling in the blanks with the clues so far, I believe the base engine is a turbo V6, and is probably the 5.5L turbo V8 with two cylinders lopped off. That would make the base engine a 4.1L 90 degree turbo V6.
This makes sense in a lot of ways. Porsche has gone to turbo engines almost exclusively for fuel economy, and got better performance at the same time. It stands to reason Corvette would do the same.
Making the V6 a derivative of the V8 saves on tooling costs. The video clip sounds a lot like a 90 degree V6. It's a bit more bassy than a 60 degree V6.
A 90 degree V6 would sit at the same height as the V8 engine, making packaging easy. The intake and exhaust manifolds would nearly the same as the V8 less two cylinders, which would save development costs. The accessory drive from the V8 would all fit. This would all be in keeping with the Corvette's goal of a low base price.
If the goal of the C8 team was 550 hp for the base engine, it would be a lot easier to accomplish that with a turbo V6, than trying to get that kind of power out of the naturally aspirated OHV 6.2L V8.
If the base engine is 550 hp, then the V8 version would be about 730, which would be very nice HP bump for the Z06.

I'm trying to find a 5.5L twin turbo V8 in GM's parts bin, to make a 4.1L twin turbo V6 from, to save money on R&D and tooling costs. If a 5.5L twin turbo V8 exists(R&D and tooling already paid for), what car/truck/SUV uses it?.

The 5.5 was listed in the engine order data someone posted a while back. Seems to be a new engine, could be based on the 4.2 caddy motor.
It would be nice if someone who remembers the thread with the engine order data could repost it.

Wouldn't this V6 TT have to be certified in many different places such as EPA? And this ME car seems just about ready to go into production. Someone/somewhere would've already found the engine certifications I'd think.
Times have changed from when you could take any engine, even a competitor's, chop off a couple cylinders, enlarge/shrink the pistons and start making it for your own cars (I keep thinking of datsun's four which was almost a replcia of mb's six, minus two cyls.)

No need for V6. Its not a V6 it’s a N/A V8 with cylinder deactivation you hear at certain stages of cruising, I guess when those are off it’s technically a 6 or 4

the only source suggesting any possible v6 for the me is a few people's imagination.
imo, the corvette will be all electric before it ever goes v6.
anecdotally, ford turbo v6 truck engines are self destructing at record rates.

Maybe it is a stereotype; no longer logically, but
anything less than a V8 is not "machismo" (for lack of better word)
enough.
(Noting: Formula One's V6 hybrid is so sad to me, yet maybe V6, Hybrid,

In closing, I rather have a 283 NA than a V6 Turbo.

GM announced DFM months ago... Supposedly it can deactivate up to 7 of the 8 cylinders for fuel economy. Entirely possible they are testing it here. The released footage of the car driving around is without a production muffler and relatively low rpm driving keeping pedal operation light. They are quite literally hiding as much about the car as they can. It is very clearly a V8 if you listen carefully, it is just very muffled deliberately to scare everyone. GM is having a very fun time teasing everyone who listens to every rumor, some of which they very well could have fed out themselves. In the video of it lapping the ring, there were one or two bit where to my ears it almost sounded like the dohc LT-5... Which would explain all the efforts to muffle the damn thing and drive it tamely. If you wind it out everyone would know immediately what it was. Let them do their thing. It'll be fine.

it will be one used in Cadillacs already. The ATSV already brings 464 ponies to the table, Im sure it would be no problem for GM to wring out another 20HP from this motor with just simple tweaks to air intakes and exhaust plumbing. 485 HP for the base car would be respectable.

I happen to think the eventual uplevel motor in the corvette if it goes flat plane crank will be a 3.9 liter turbo.
FOrds experiement with its larger than 4 liter flat plane crank v8 has had numerous issues due to displacement size.
decreasing displacement on the caddy twin turbo slightly and upping the boost makes more sense...especially if a flat plane crank is installed...
ferrari, mclaren both have 3.9 liter twin turbo motors.

NO! Be careful what you wish for. If it is an FPC, it better be way below 5 liters. Just got rid of a GT350 Shelby to buy my '19 Z06 manual. The Shelby GT350 5.2 FPC motors are having significant high oil burning and outright engine failures over 5 dozen engine failures already documented just from users reporting in from a few Mustang forums which probably have less than 1000 Shelby owners total. Major vibration issues with large FPC motors. Ford walked away from FPC motors and back to cross plane crank motors for their GT4 mustangs two years ago.
