As the c8 sort if mimics the ferrari 488 withjts rear mid engine design, i sure hope the 7 th gen camaro mimics in design if a hardtop ferrari Portofino..

that would be a hell of lineup.

the 6 th gen is cool although not a fan of the recent mid cycle refresh...

the 2 plus 2 ferrari portofino is stunning.

the quarter panels have to be fake, they do not match the rest of the car. There is no way GM got it this wrong. The front of the car looks great.

I stopped at the local dealership one day this summer just to check it out in person:

Looks like a lot of wheelwell gap and too much fender peeking out from behind the tires. Maybe it’s the angle, probably more of a certainty it’s me. Ferrari seems to have a decent grasp on how to design a car.

When I first saw the bottom version I said "is this a New version of the ZL1 Camaro?"

So yeah, this camo looks like a Camaro.

Never did I think it was a Vette.

Is this possibly a Cormaro we are looking at here? I know that in the development of the C5 they funded the build of a few Camaros fitted with the C5 drivetrain / chassis combo.. Perhaps something similar was done again. Then again, it may be all camo.

My guess is that you were one of those who were not going to buy a C7 because the tail lights looked like a Camaro's.

Yep, the C8's general design was finalized before they knew the gen6 Camaro was a flop, and the same team designed both the C8 and the Camaro6.

If visibility is as bad, then they must be sweating now that the Camaro7 was terminated. The C8 is so beautiful that I suspect buyers won't care so much, especially since it will have a video rearview mirror and isn't normally used as a daily driver like the Camaro.

From that angle, yes to me looks like a Camaro. to me. If that photo showed in a a C&D or MT mag w/ a title "GM caught testing new Camaro", I'd not question the pix.

Where has GM ever stated that they terminated the 7th Generation Camaro??? I don't believe that is true.

They won't publicly state it until the Camaro6 is ready to be put out of production. Still, it's obvious from public info. Oppenheiser was removed from his role as Chief Engineer of the Camaro, and replaced by a GM performance parts manager who's fit to oversee new wheel options and decal packages. Oppenheiser's comments to the press made it clear that he isn't leaving by his own choice, saying he thought he'd be Camaro Chief Engineer until he died, and of course if the Camaro7 was still a go, then now is about the worst time possible to remove the Chief Engineer.

Anyways, a lot of people at GM are pissed about it and they're talking. That's how I learned about it, I didn't realize there was so much public info until later.

C7 is a great example. Ugly as can be in camo, mediocre in the Jalopnik renders, striking and popular (yes, even the butt) when revealed.

There will be those who don't like the C8, and likely for very defensible reasons from their perspectives. There are and will remain folks who object to any particular Corvette generation's styling. Popular as the C7 is, I am not convinced it is as "timeless" as the C6 which to me is smooth, efficient, taut and purposeful without a lot of very "of its time" details. So what -- GM only cares that they look good to most -- and sell. I will be shocked if the C8 is as big a "fail" as the latest Camaro refresh...
I was nodding my head for the first half of your post...but then you lost me. The C6 is not even remotely timeless...and I say this as someone who REALLY likes the C6...but it was dated the day the C7 (especially the Grand Sport / Z06 body) hit the showroom floor. The original “narrow body” C6 especially, looks tired and ordinary. Time will tell on the C7, but sincerely the C6 is very dated.

Agreed. I loved my C6 but it cannot hold a candle in terms of styling and tech of the C7.. and FORGET the C5 in comparison. A car to me once was the pinnacle of Corvette how could they EVER top it lol.

Love new designs. But as time goes on few stand up to that test.

I also loved the C6 design during it's run, but I also find it very dated today. But, these types of perceptions vary widely.

Funny how things work... I never liked C4s, fell in love with the C5, never cared for the C6 until the widebody ones and still didn't like them enough to own one, fell in love with the C7 and really liking what I see with the C8. Here's the funny part.... I love C4s now... they're retro and I "get" the styling now that I'm nearing 40 and love the clamshell hood etc. I still love my C5s, but they look super long next to a C7. I still don't like C6s.

FWIW —

I just sold my C6 and picked up a really stunning C7. So don’t get me wrong — to my eyes TODAY the C7 “pops” and the C6 kinda just sits there. BUT, I still wonder whether in a decade or two people will think the C7 more “dated” with all the scoops, vents and “surface tension”.

Two analogies: (1) Lambo Miura vs. later model Countach and (2) 1961 Lincoln Continental vs. 1969 Lincoln Continental. I would argue that looking at them TODAY, in both cases, the simpler and more elegant styling looks much better and more “timeless.
