Everything about C8 is speculation until GM announces something. I appreciate that Rick let us know that there are some new codes out there. No one outside GM will likely know what the exact meaning of those codes is right now but I am grateful for any information that might indicate that C8 is possibly getting closer. I would also rather hear a small tidbit of official information like this (from GM order system) than read a hundred articles that profess to know exactly what is going on with C8 because they read it in some other article that quoted a forum post somewhere. The rumors may end up being true but they are currently just rumors until GM makes it official and at least this is something coming from GM.

Thank you Rick, this is big news.
Model codes don't change unless significant change is made. My guess is the 2020 Stingray is a C7 Stingray with new powertrain. Just a guess.

Rick forgot to mention that Mary Barra said GM will only have four platforms by 2025 so which one will be used for the ME? Automotive News has had articles about GM repositioning itself and you wonder where the ME will fit into these changes with such a low volume sports car?

They've said certain low volume specialty vehicles will retain dedicated platforms.

I was under the impression that the c8 (ME) was 2Y and the FE was 1Y.

Several codes to confuse the matter...

The Platform Code is Y. Under the platform code, the FE is Y1 and the ME is reportedly Y2.

The internal product code for the ME has previously been reported to be Y2BC.

The model code for the current C7 Stingray Base Coupe is 1YY07 and 1YY67 for the Stingray Base Vert. Other model codes as well for the Z51, GS, Z06, and ZR1.

The 2020 model code that was just revealed is for a Stingray Coupe 1YC07 and Stingray Convertible 1YC67. It's interesting that the reported internal product code for the ME also uses a C. Could it be that the base ME Stingray will use either B or C and the Z51 ME Stingray use the other?

It breaks down like this. Speaking solely about the C7 for a minute...

Y1XX is the platform code. This applies to all C7 Corvette models, regardless of engine, body style or nameplate (Chevrolet, Buick, etc).

Y1BX is a coupe, and Y1AX is a convertible.

Y1XC denotes Chevrolet brand.

So if we pretend that there was a C7-generation Cadillac XLR, it would be Y1AL.

Y2XX would be the successor to the Y1 platform. Now whether that's a front engine car or mid engine is still a mystery. For all we know the mid engine car is Z1XX.

Anyway, the 1YY07 stuff is the sales or book code. That denotes a specific model within a platform. From the thread I mentioned earlier these are the known C7 sales codes:

I don't have the full list of C6 sales codes handy, but at a glance the 2012 model used:

1YG07 Grand Sport coupe
1YG67 Grand Sport vert
1YY07 base coupe
1YY67 base convertible
1YY87 Z06 & ZR1 (coupe only) <--this one is really weird because it denotes two different models

So going from C6 to C7, some sales codes stayed the same, and some changed. A new code can be an all new generation of car, but it doesn't have to be.

In summary, 1YC07/67 could be anything from a new C7 sub-model, to the mid engine car, to just an empty placeholder that doesn't exist at all.
