Is this the real reason for the C8 delay?
I think this may be the real reason for any delay, as many have mentioned.
For the 2018 Calendar Year, GM sold 18,791 Corvettes.
There is currently almost a 6 month supply of Corvettes sitting on dealer lots, in the dead of Winter in many areas of the country.
Anyone who knows cars knows that any car sitting on a lot over 90 days is a Nightmare for a dealer.
Add in the slow demand for C7s cause everyone is wanting to see the new C8 and it could take 1 year to get these cars off the lots.
Demand for Corvettes was Down over 25% in 2018, probably 40% after the C8 is revealed.
GM has basically No rebates to move these cars.
Ultra Low-Mileage Lease for Qualified Lessees <<<<<<< What the hell does this mean?
This is all I found on the GM site: https://www.chevrolet.com/current-de...ette:corvette&

2018 had less than 12 months?
OP is quoting CALENDAR year, not model year.
However, I don't think the current inventory has anything to do with any delay for the C8, any more than the glut of C6's delayed the C7. And if Zerv02 is to be believed, it is getting announced in just 1 or 2 days. I'm personally doubtful, but we will know very soon.

If my math is correct, talks about a production mid engine Vette been going on for over 50 years. So who knows exactly what the reason is for more delays (except GM of course).

GM doesn't give a rat's a$$ about C7's sitting on dealer's lots, that's the dealer's problem. As far as GM is concerned, they already made their money on them. The dealers will do what they need to do to move them. Typically discount them and put spiffs out to the sales people, this works miracles to move aged inventory. All they have to do is to get them within reach of those folks that couldn't get into a new C7 last year. GM will probably help out in order to clear out the parts bin and keep the line moving up until the switch.
The dealers will stock order as many C8's they can, regardless of their C7 inventory. They will be the hot new product and will be able to sell them all at sticker and some will do so with a mark up. GM will want to roll out the C8 as soon as they can. They've invested a lot of money in the development, and probably borrowed some, so they need to get that R.O.I. as soon as possible. Delaying production for the new car just because there are old cars on lots just doesn't make sense.

Sixty day inventory levels is an indistry wide preference...triple that inventory level and any corporation would be interested.
GM has surprisingly been very light on incentives of its specialty products althoughi believe this final year of c7 production coukd see a return to pre bowling green paint booth discounts...in fact we are beginning to see those fantastic sales already.
tempting as hell to save big in a c7 or say a 650 hp c7 z06..
the new c8 holds too many tempting attributes..
that interior photo release kept many of us on the hook to consider a new c8..
very well done WOW!

Idk, I see brand new ‘19’s being advertised with heavy discounts of $7–10k.

Not all of it. GM has many incentives to help their dealers move their overstocked inventory. GM has a reason to do that "backdoor" rebates to the dealers as the dealers won't order new Corvettes if they can't move what they already have in their showrooms. And if the dealers don't order new inventory from GM, then GM has to shut down their assembly line, as they did several times when the economy went in the toilet in 2009 and the dealers had problems selling their C6 inventory.

When, exactly? I went to my parts dealer a couple of weeks ago and stopped off at the corvette specialists office. Told him Chevy was drowning in Vettes, and he didn't think there was any problem up here whatsoever. And we pay 35% more, due to weak commodity prices and an even weaker government. So, if a Canadian wants a deal, we will have someone else own a US car for 6 months so it qualifies for "used". I don't know why the General thinks Canadians can pay more. Cost of living up here is horrendous. So, no deals north of the 49th.

Don't we have to have a "release date" to determine there is a "delay"?

If they are stopping production in March, and the C8 doesn't come out until November 2019 to April 2020 because of the "electrical issue", then they will have plenty of time to move out the inventory. In fact, they may even run short. Nothing to worry about.

Yep, I got 12% off a 2019 c7z I built online
