Had an interesting conversation with a tech
Brought my C7 in for some routine maintenance. When the tech brought it out I asked him if he was ready for the arrival of the ME C8. He says, honestly we are in complete darkness just as much as the general public. I understand that the C8 is still under wraps. But I find it odd that in just a few months the C8 will hit the floors and the techs have no idea how to trouble shoot them. He admittedly said, we’ll just learn along the way. I certainly hope at some point the techs will get some formal training.

GM has online training, an extensive service database, periodic bulletins and news letters, and instructor lead training that techs can sign up for. It'll all be made available closer to the car's release. This isn't a big deal at all.

How can you train a tech on a car that has not been released yet?
“Sorry Mr Technician, can’t show you any pictures, diagrams, etc, but just imagine the screw goes in one side, and the nut goes on the other side”.
Not very helpful!

I'd rather hear that honesty instead of another dealership trying to act like they have insider info in order to get their hands into your wallet.

They are probably a year out from actually having to wrench on a C8. It's a bit early to expect them to know anything

Since you won't see cars until the fall or winter, the technicians will begin training on them a month or so prior. That's how it works with Ford, I'd assume it's the same with GM. Typically they'll send one or two of their Master Certified techs out to a training center, and have them disseminate info to the others. We had to fly two of our guys out to become Ford GT certified, along with the specialty equipment needed.

Imagine the hand wringing back in 1953 when the techs found out that they would have to deal with three carburetors instead of just one. I wonder if there are any records of the suicide rates amongst the techs back then.

corvette techs are following company policy on discussing C8 corvette information..
we know nothing......
keep that in mind as you ponder these topics.
