Corvette is a success because it is fast, stylish, affordable and practical. The ME Corvette will likely be fast, although probably slower than a ZR1, and if it only offers the LT2 at ~500 hp, it will definitely be slower. Not much demand for a slower Corvette.

So you think Supra and Z4 will be failures in the market? Maybe Corvette will abandon the reasonably priced FE sports car market because it cannot compete with Supra and Z4. That would at least make some sense as opposed to the "logic" others are deluding themselves with around here.

It is made with 75% North American parts, same as the Toyota Camry. That's higher than most any other car out there and certainly more than any other sports car. By any measure it s an American sports car and it is not "foolish" to claim so.

PS. I will say that if the Supra/Z4 SNIFF anything CLOSE to 20,000 units in the U.S., it will be a miracle.
The last year the Z4 crested 10,000 units in the U.S. was 2007 (10,097 sold), after that, it has averaged 2,530 cars sold a year (in the U.S.).
The late, lamented Mark IV Supra sold less than 12,000 copies in it's life in the U.S., based on the numbers I could find. No question the car, already out of production, was given a huge boost (pun intended) by the Fast and Furious movie series. Looking at what unmolested TT Mark IV's go for at auction ($150K+!!!) is truly remarkable. And hopefully we can all agree that the NEW Supra is NO Mark IV in any shape, form, or fashion.
So, the badass Mark IV was a failure, what makes you think a re-badged Z4 that's only available with an 8 speed TC auto and LESS horsepower than it's engineering twin is going to be a hit? When the chief engineer of the Mark V is already talking about customers swapping out the BMW 6 for the legendary 2JZ-GTE TT 6 cylinder from the Mark IV, that's a shockingly BAD look.
Lack of an FE Corvette is NOT the determining factor for the Supra. The car is already perceived, rightly or wrongly, as a very POOR follow up to the Mark IV.
PSS. Go to a Supra forum. The amount of outright DISDAIN and HATERED for the new Supra is UNPARALLELED. These guys truly HATE the car. Toyota better pray that a NEW group of customers are in the wings for the new Supra because the current Supra owners won't touch the car with a 10 foot pole.

And BTW, your continuous use of the term "ad hominem" is also incorrect ("AD HOMINEM: directed against a person rather than the position they are maintaining.")
I am questioning your rather ridiculous positions, so they are definitively NOT ad hominem. I do not know you.

When you buy a Toyota Camry made in the U.S.A., ALL the excess profits go to Japan. When you buy a GM Chevrolet Corvette made in the U.S.A., ALL the excess profits go to the United States of America. Some haven't been able to grasp the differences...

But, not nearly as capable performance-wise as a base C7 in a similar price bracket.

So when you buy a car, you decide based on where the corporate profits go? Apart from a few union guys, nobody cares where the profits go. Mary Barra makes $20 million/year so I should be concerned about putting more money in her purse?

Corvette is made with parts from all over the world so if people are buying it because they think it is an "American sports car" they are just foolish.

Faster than what? Handles better than what? A C7 Stingray? You might want to look that up....
It seems the new Supra is VERY tail happy. EVERY previewer of the car has mentioned it (and not in a good way). So much for the handling part, huh?

The 2020 C8 will DEFINITELY be slower than a C7 ZR1. And since YOU seem to think that fact will doom the C8, you are going to get your wish. The C8 will be a failure, sales wise, everyone on CF will laud and praise you as THE authority on all things Corvette.
OR NOT.

Supra Mark IV.
But you make a good point: Why would Corvette abandon the $50K sports car market to Supra when the FE Stingray out-performs it and offers a manual trans?
Makes no sense to give away a market you dominate to a fierce competitor, but the consensus here is that it is a done deal.

Do I think there will be a lot of demand for a bargain base C8 that outperforms a bargain base C7? No question, yes. Apples to apples, grasshopper.
It's the same with the Porsche comparison you so love to make. No one expects a 2020 base 911 to outperform a 2014 911 GT3 because it simply can't. Your world view appears to be bizzaro.

The FE Corvette is finished. I'm sorry you're mad about it. Go buy a C7...there's plenty available.

Indeed, I've heard it called "Jekyll and Hyde" on the track that will likely bite all but the most experienced. It is no match for the base C7, which has far better handling qualities, same weight, and 125 and 100 better HP and TQ numbers, respectively .
