Here is your C8 engine...according to GM Authority

Standard GM Marketing playbook. Platform change but not the motor. C5 was diffferent in that way. C4 was different in the drivetrain and chassis but not the power plant.
So we have a completely different chassis/drivetrain config, but a warmed over powertrain. Doesn’t sound like 2 in block cams are in the cards either.

The is absolutely nothing "old-tech" about the LS OHV engines.
They have the highest NA specific output per unit of engine weight of ANY automotive engine out there, and yes that includes Ferrari and Porsche engines.
They have the highest fuel economy of any engine in their power class
They have the smallest physical packaging of any engine in their power class.
Fewer moving parts makes them more reliable.
These are all critical attributes from an auto engineering and design perspective. Lighter. more powerful, and more compact. Which is why the Corvettes are typically the fastest around a road course. More moving parts and more valves and camshafts is not more advanced. It is less advanced.

This is an outstanding post. So true.
There are many of us who adore the Chevrolet V8. So entertaining to watch and listen to the semantic dance that the Euro-wennies engage in when the C7 or C8 Corvette is discussed along with the massive power that is easily realized with GM's simplistic design vs the pip squeak econo box displacement motors that Porsche employs . Seriously, who really wants a 181 cubic inch, 6 cylinder puss motor jacked up with tennie wennie air pumps to comply with European tree hugger, carbon BS mandates and sounds like the neighbors housewife in her Toyota going up the street on her way to Krogers. Forget about it. Man up and stick with a big ball V8.

I don't believe much here... we know it's an 8-speed DCT; not 7. Pretty lame article... we all expect around 500 horse already.

Those of you who are disappointed about the LT2 should wait for the Z06...

Nothing here explains the engine block cutaway "extra" chain. Maybe whatever that chain drives is the "surprise"?
On the other hand I believe trying to intro a whole new chassis architecture and new engine family simultaneously is a tough road to hoe. So a slightly update engine makes sense even if I was hoping for something a little north of 500 just for bragging purposes.

GM made the right choice for total performance, cost, and hopefully for mods!

Drifting
To me, if true, is somewhat reassuring considering everything else will be new.

For me 480HP. would be a big let-down. Base C8 needs atleast 520HP IMO

Well I am excited about the C8. However, the C6 to C7 was only a 24 Hwp increase. I am hoping that it will be over 505 like 510 at least. If it is only 480 there is no way I will buy the initial C8. I will have to wait until the Z06 comes out. If it is over 505 Hwp then I just might get the Z51 equivalent and then in a few years get the Z06.
I really hope that ugly spoiler is not on the car. I am looking forward to active aero on the C8. The Camo cars look so much better without the spoiler. Only 13 more days so we are all hanging on for the reveal.
Cheers.
Happy 4th of July!!!

We will not know until the reveal what the C8 Mid engine will have, but it was a few years until the C6 platform base engine went from 400 to 430hp.
But regardless, what ever it will be, It will be fine, no complaints.
I will be satisfied to get a base model, and the trade up to a Z06 a few years later.

Range will be happy since everyone will be dealing with AFM. I hope the new tranny is better than the A8 in the C7.
