Convertible picture
Someone asked about this earlier and I was able to grab a pic from the replay. A small text disclaimer about being a 'preproduction model' was on screen a few seconds before this though, so who knows how accurate this will turn out to be....

Would love to see the convertible in person. Looks like it may be an eye-catcher. Maybe not 458 or 488 Spyder catching, but in its own way.

That’s what I want, if I can wait for it. Otherwise the Targa C8 it might be. Color, got to see them. Yellow in the top three unless it is close to or just like Camaro Shock.

I'm in the vert camp at the moment, I love the idea of an automatic top...plus the location of the trunk means it will have exactly the same amount of cargo space. The hardtop also makes it able to run track days and HPDE compliant. I am now sad that it will be a few years before I can swing one.

I'm a life long convertible guy, and although the removable targa-like top gives some open air experience, it doesn't satisfy my instincts for open-top motoring.
So, waiting to see the convertible C8 may be the key event that delays me triggering buying a C8.
The other concern, and I recognize that the pictures above are preliminary, but it would seem that the convertible does not provide the ability for engine-viewing glass between the buttresses. That makes the choice even more difficult, as I like the visible engine setup of the coupe.

I'm hoping they offer the glass engine view with the convertible but it's not a deal breaker. The convertible is a bigger priority than the engine view for me.

I've read a few comments in other threads as well about hoping for a hard top convertible with a window to view the engine. Is this a thing? I've personally never seen a mid engine hard top convertible with a viewable engine.

In the C6 vert, the windshield is a US-qualified rollover structure, and so lots of HPDEs allow them without a secondary roll bar. Might be the same here.

I don't much care for it. I actually prefer the C7 convertible or the C8 as a coupe. Sad because I wanted it in convertible.
I wonder if it has pop up roll over protection or does GM still think convertible owners never dream of the track.

I am holding off on ordering to see if those buttresses have track-approved roll protection. I will buy the vert if I can HPDE it still. Otherwise probably another coupe.

Not so fast on the HPDE... I'm working with my regional NASA folks and the car won't pass just because of the hard top roof and buttresses. It must have structural supports (mini roll hoops like the Boxster and S2000) or the mfg must specifically certify it's roll-over worthiness. We don't know if they put anything solid under those buttresses yet.
