Robert Cumberford: "I'm sorry, but I'm disappointed."

I was thinking the same thing ! The new C8 actually brought even trolls that just signed up yesterday on here to bash the car, either because they own a Civic probably and Can't afford a C8 or probably got ripped off paying over 100k for a Porsche that isn't as fast or as nice and exciting looking as the C8!

Burning Brakes
For what its worth, I do like the car, and I think it is a technical masterpiece. I will probably buy one next year after I sell my 2014 C7 Z51, (I have owned a C7 for as long as anyone else on this forum - my car is one of the very first ones built and delivered in Sept. 2013.)
My comments are mild compared to the excrement thrown at the C7 taillight design in 2013. With a dark enough color, (black), the car will look fine.

Look at all the top luxury brands. You buy a Rolex Submariner today and it's not that much different from what it looked like 50 years ago. If it suddenly became an electronic watch like an Apple Watch, it wouldn't go over well.
I'm not saying the Corvette has turned into that, but this is a radical shift. Hopefully it works out but this is not a recognizable version of the car.

Melting Slicks
This coming from a former 2015 C7 Z51 and 2017 Camaro ZL1 owner - I really wanted to like the C8.
I agree with almost every criticism above. I had hoped GM was using some clever misdirection on the camo tester mules, but my worst fears came true during the unveiling. I'm glad some people like it though.
What I hate: the side scoops. The spoiler. The steering wheel.
What I can stomach: the rear end might grow on me over time. I had hoped for a warmer yellow color.
What I like: the advertised performance. The price. The variety of interior colors at launch.
However, all of that is probably a deal killer for me there will be no manual transmission. I was amused by the unveiling host interviewing the GM employee's job who was to "listen to the voice of the customer." When it comes to customers, they're clearing ignoring a lot of them who want a manual.

Stodgy old Aston killed it with their new design direction. 0 to 200 MPH in one product cycle! If I were in the million dollar car club I would kick Ferrari to the curb for a 11,000 RPM Cosworth Aston.
Corvette was finally in the perfect position to step out of the box and they blew it on a 6 inch longer, heavier, and uglier box that holds a bunch of golf clubs.
My 2008 Z was a 7,000 RPM lightweight and handsome rocket. Lean and mean. That car was the modern day and affordable L88 that was brutally handsome and additionally.
just looked fast. The C8 just looks fat😩.

Right on BBJ, and let me add::; 6 inches longer and 100+ lbs heavier? WTF? This was not a good direction to go in if you are trying to lower your average buyers age. I think the C8 looks dated and like an old *****. An old ***** with small back wheels.

THIS is what a Corvette should look like:
Even has physical gauges instead of a JUMBO TRON on the dash! Man those 427s are sure looking good now!!!!
Oh and by the way: I'm not even close to a baby boomer....I'm not even 40.

As a longtime former Corvette owner and current owner for 20 years with Porsche's 986/987/981 ME platforms, a few observations:
Price--right where they want to be.At $60K + they will take sales from Porsche, Jaguar and Honda assuming the quality is OK.
Exterior Styling--I first thought of the NSX when I saw it (which prices around another $100K more). The front end looks good,:I agree with comerford on the numerous lines on the hood, they don't add anything visually but may be needed for another reason. The door scoops are large but not a deal killer; the Z51 spoiler looks tacked on--the base car rear with no spoiler looks way better.
Interior--I like everything except the row of switches running above the console. Porsche did something like this on the Panamera and it was a PITA to use. I think the steering wheel will be changed to a flat on the bottom soon.
Drivetrain-it made great sense to do a "carryover" from the C7 to limit how much new stuff to put on a brand new platform. It's powerful motor with a good reputation and they've added a lot of devices--tranny and motor heat exchangers like Porsche--to control coolant and oil temps--Great!
It looks like the suspension will be fine on all models--unlike the C7 base which seemed a bit soft for all the power. No numbers on how big the rotors are but they looked substantial as they should be on a 500HP car.
Regarding the tranny, I agree a manual should be offered--Porsche has just offered one on the 991.2 GT3 because of customer complaints. Having said that, if the DCT is as good as the Porsche PDK, there are a lot of people that will enyor driving it. I never though of buying a PDK on our Porsches but in a test drive at Mid-OH I was impressed with it--amazingly fast shifts.
Anyway, all things considered, there were more things I liked about the car than disliked. Obviously a test drive would be in order to see how everything worked on the street, but if I was looking at a new 718 Cayman or GT4, the C8 would be on my list to consider.

No doubt. To me, a Corvette has a long HOOD, not rear end. It has smooth curves, round tails, a proper stick shift, and a front-hinging hood. These are the timeless part of the Corvette, but not anymore.

Yep, I'll keep mine for another 10 years. The best Vette yet. My new Vette will be ready for xmas. Both have 6 speeds. One for sport and one for comfort. Who knows, I may just put another body on a C8 down the road when I'll have use for an auto..

So a guy, clinging to the past, has less than favorable things to say about the new direction of the Corvette, and this is a surprise? He’s out of touch if he doesn’t see what a knock-out the C8 design is.
I love the C7 and the base Stingray but felt the true design was not revealed until the Z06 came out...I feel the 2020 Stingray is just scratching the surface of the bad-assery of this C8. Time will tell...for now we’ll listen to old timers venting about chrome bumpers and the good old days.

Its cool.... it's a radical departure..... it's just not CORVETTE... will I buy one some day? Probably as choices are limited. But u was at the porsche dealer today with my Buddy we both bought our C7Zs same time. Test drove a new 911..... don't..... just take my word for it. Going back to try a Cayman 718 S to see what a ME car feels like just for..why not? I repeat... do not drive a new 911 lol.
Going to see the ME car with him and our spouses next friday... it will be interesting. That's for sure... even if it sways me? I would HAVE to wait for the next level. I would quickly be bored of less than 500 hp after having this thing for 3 yrs... zero to 60 roughly same in number but not feeling. And beyond or from lower speed up the Hp/Tq matters.

I respect his opinions, but I view him as what I refer to as a beer or wine snob. I'm not really a drinker and when people say this wine has notes of this or subtle hints of that, meh. If I try it and like it, I will drink it. I don't need someone telling me why I should or shouldn't.
Taste is subjective,
Personally, I think everything about this car is awesome. The future is now folks. Just like it was future when the C7 debuted. Like it or don't. I'll have mine in a few years.

AMEN! I'm sure they are nice cars but holy he-- they always look the SAME! Even across models. It's like "oh that's a 2019 911" Huh, thought it was a 1978 964 GT.

I still think there is room for a FE refreshed C7 with an LT1 motor. I’d sell it more as a plain Jane 1LT, with textile seats, maybe with an upgrade to comp seats, with seven speed manual and use it as the gateway drug. You could sell in the mid $40k range which would satisfy the old guard and maybe people who want to track their cars. There’s plenty of aftermarket for the C7 so you could have a cult following. Then the C8 would have several steps up as expected from base, Z51, GS etc. I think the Cayman/911 combo works pretty well for Porsche.
