A C7 Grand Sport is a poser version of a Z06? Ridiculous. There is a high percentage of C7 enthusiasts who would laugh at that stupid statement as many including myself would vote GS for the best all around C7. "Poser" indeed.

Its the natural order... base.. z51... GS... Z06... ZR1

Each fits in line from a performance perspective. The GS will perform better than the Z51 and as close to a Z06 as Chevy feels it should.
The GS will come out after the Z06. It will have the look and most of the performance pieces of the Z06, which are better than the Z51 model, but not the extra power of the Z06, and at a lower cost.

I went with the GS as my first Corvette, but if they come out with a manual transmission in a Z06, that's what I will buy.

Although they have kept Corvette, Stingray, and Z51, with an all new car, who knows what the nomenclature will be, but there will definitely be z06 and GS like variants over the next couple of years.

I'd like to see a smaller, higher revving V8 in the GS, as well as a serious diet and track bits. A de-stroked 6.2 can be made to make serious HP.

This is very helpful. Thank you. How do you “like” a post

I see no need for a GS variant, only Z models. The car is already pretty decked out.

The C8 has smaller brakes/tires compared to the C7 widebodies. That is the main weakness of the C8 for those of us that already have a C7 GS or Z06.

A lot of people are going to want a car that handles/brakes at Z06 levels but do not want 700+ HP. Perhaps they will focus on weight reduction this time, like the original cars.

The Professor's post is exactly what I was thinking when I saw that they are offering the hash stripes on the base C8 but I still think they'll make one fro the C8 for two reasons:

A: It's generally the model that extends the lifeline of the car a few years.
B: The GS was Zora's baby. Further, perhaps they will ditch the has stripes and go with the famous T stripe on the hood/fender.

Completely agree, but I want the naturally aspirated version on the higher reving Z06 DOHC motor somewhere in the mid to high 500hp range. That GS... would be the one for me.

Purchased my grand sport for its great looks and performance. In several of the threads on this forum, it has been mentioned that there might not be a widebody C8. There seems to be sufficient clearance for wider tires on the current body and therefore would negate the necessity for a widebody. If that should be true, there would be no need for a grand sport, the Z 51 would fill those shoes

I never cared for Corvettes when the C3, C4, and C5's were released. I liked the C6, but never fell in love and wanted one until I saw a Z06 and GS wide body. I bought a GS. I could never own the base narrow body. The C8 looks awesome, but I will wait to see what the Z06 looks like.

Widebody Not! The tires aren't even growing on the ZO6 it would seem.

Yep, and those quick to buy this will be upset because they will put a new engine in it. But still no manual.

To your point, I would rather see the GS be a stripped down, lightweight, track focused monster with the best naturally aspirated engine Chevy can put in it.

However, I won’t hold my breath.
There should be a heritage edition with a 427, and some retro styling, including a fake hood scoop like that of the 1967 427 vette. I like your idea for the grandsport, also the z06/zr1 flat plane crank should be a 327 or 350. A 454 supercharged awd manta ray with a roof scoop, backwards mclaren doors, and a bodycolor (like the old manta ray color) wing

Yes, just like in the C6 and C7, many of us would not have swapped our existing C6/C7 Vette for a new one that looked essentially the same. The wide body version is what many of us wanted, and made us trade up, the same situation will occur in the C8 IMO, by 2023.

That was hopes. More realisticaly, they should throw a 570hp LS7, rwd only, and a manual into the GS, with both t stripe and red hash. It would be focused on being more track focused than the z06 and more american, sort of a heritage special. 5.7L 350cui. flat plane crank z06 with awd, 700hp 450lb-ft, and active aero. The zr1 would have 900hp 700lb-ft twin turbo z06 engine, 200hp 400lb-ft hybrid, awd, huge wing, etc. An awd electric e-ray with 450hp 900lb-ft would be nice too.
