"According to the employees' LinkedIn profiles, Thim is a CAE (computer aided engineering) engineer working on induction and exhaust systems, and Derkatz is an electrical engineer. "
So Thim developed exhaust systems & induction systems. I wonder if Derkatz did any suspension or powertrain control system development. In any event, if you play with someone else's toys, you have to play nice. They
Back when I was a co-op student in Saginaw Division (now Nexsteer), we could check out vehicles from the motor pool. The day the new 4th-generation F-body came in, (a '93 Firebird Formula) me and three young engineers borrowed it, and we promptly got pulled over by the police on the streets of east side Saginaw. Mostly we got a lecture about "what the heck were you thinking driving around here, you are going to get carjacked: Play somewhere else." ... We had been keeping our little blasts to below 60 MPH, but got caught cutting some quick corners on the streets of the mostly abandoned neighborhoods near Grey Iron foundry.
...so I can't throw any rocks towards their glass house.

What these two engineers did was just stupid, at the end of the day this was companies property and they sign off on documents and know the consequences if something happened. These cars have so many sensors with systems that are storing data on what is happening at all times. I lived in KY for over 8 years, you have good and bad cops in all states this is not a Kentucky cop thing, they are abiding to the laws. I live in Texas now and if your on the freeway driving the speed limit, you will get run over by another vehicle, they drive very fast in this state.
I agree with the few that say if you have a drivers license and driven or owned a sports car in your life you have broken a law at one time or another. (Speeding,Burn outs, drifting, going sideways, Etc) I know many that have been running late for an appointment, or a game, work or even an event that drove a little crazy to make it on time. Half the population are texting and not paying attention while in the vehicles anyway, we are all distracted, I know that’s another discussion.
First let me say street racing is just stupid dangerous and could change you or others lives in a second. I think what makes this so stupid these two engineers have more excess to test course than most of us on this forum. Let’s don’t forget these test cars are being monitored at all times and I am sure speed is being recorded, just stupid.

120 in a 45, and intoxicated to boot. **** these guys.
It started near a mall and ended on a four lane road with light commercial development. This wasn't some empty country road in a corn field.
Observed (3) total 2020 Corvettes turn from Scottsville Road onto Ken Bale Blvd and accelerate heavily. While observing the Corvettes, all 3 made a left turn onto Middle Bridge Road and then a right onto Lovers lane. The above (Red) Corvette accelerated heavily in the left lane on Lovers Lane and achieved a speed of 120 MPH in the posted 45 MPH zone. Night conditions. The White Corvette was stopped in the right lane and achieved a top speed of 100 MPH. The last Corvette (Blue) was driven by a witness and did not participate in the race. The Corvettes were observed at speed from the intersection of Middle Bridge until the traffic stop was conducted at Olde Towne Blvd. The odor of an alcoholic be verage was present on the breath of the operator. PBT detected presence of alcohol. The party stated that they were all familiar with each other and were employees of GM. The individuals had been at “Que Time” before contact was made this date. GM owns all Corvettes involved. Speed was detected visually and confirmed by same direction, moving radar. Stalker DSR 2x radar was calibrated before this shift.

Damn Lucky
I drove that route one year during a bash event. Just damn lucky they didn't get killed or kill someone else. That would have been a publicity debacle of the worst kind. As a GM stockholder, just don't need those issues.

can you truthfully state that you never ever in your life got a speeding ticket or was ever even pulled over for speeding ??

My opinion, 120 MPH on public streets is just nuts. And, I believe there’s a huge difference between doing 46 in a 45 zone, and doing 120 in a 45 zone. Sure, doing 46 in a 45 zone maybe illegal, but no judge will fine you for that. The keyword here is severity of the crime.
Also, I’m seriously doubting this was a publicity stunt. Do we actually think GM management is that clueless to think having two guys arrested for doing 120 MPH in GM’s flagship makes for good publicity? If anything, it shows that Corvette owners are numbskulls. I vote no for publicity stunt.

I never said they were charged with anything. I said they were intoxicated, as per the police report. Sounds like you're the one who needs to work on his reading comprehension.

The police report did NOT say they were "intoxicated" (that came from YOU), the police report said the officer smelled alcohol....smelling alcohol and being intoxicated are TWO DIFFERENT THINGS. If they had ONE beer, the officer would have "smelled alcohol".
So, you can read and then you can put your own idea about what they meant to say...

That *is* the most important question.
If they don't get fired, then good for them.
BUT! I bet they will not be working on the Corvette development team anymore! CAD guy will be designing exhaust pipes for economy cars while EE guy will be making CAN-bus enabled body control module printed circuit boards for controlling dome lights for a long, long time.
120 in a 45 after hanging out at the bar... sheesh. I bet the devil made 'em do it, and I bet .38 special was playing full blast on their radio. I feel bad for them, I really do. They were probably car guys living their dream job and now its over.
