Why do you want your deposit back? Stuff happens. You will get a 2020 or maybe a 2021. GM has in the past honored the price of an accepted order if they could not make it before the new model year started. Even if GM does not honor the 2020 price are you going to cancel an order because of maybe $2,000 or so more for a 2021. I find it hard to believe that some claim to be Vette people but find silly little things to claim "deal breaker" or "I am canceling". I question if they ever intended to order a Vette in the first place.

Also so if you haven’t noticed we are heading towards a major recession and tens of millions are losing their job and many more will be impacted in one form or another. I’m guessing a $60-110K toy car is not many people priorities anymore.

I got my deposit back because my dealer was not moving any allocations and it would have taken forever to get my order confirmed by BG, plus I figured the Coronavirus stuff would mess up production anyway. Plus (and I know this won't go over well on this thread) the more I looked the more I liked the C7 Z06 over the C8 anyway. Nothing against the C8 though, it's a really sharp looking car and I hope all those who get one are really happy with their choice.

Did you sign a contract for a 2020 model? If so, that should be your loophole if you want out, and a 2020 isn't delivered to you.

Nope. I want the car. If it ends up rolling over to a 2021, that will be fine as long as it is near the beginning of the model year.

GM also anticipated producing 28-40K+ 2020 C8’s depending on who you believe. They won’t be able to make even half that 2020 number, so sure people are going to drop out. If you live in a state with winter and thought you would have your car all summer and early fall and now wont get delivery until late this year it makes no sense.

I am 57, a lot younger than many on this forum and a lot older than many. GOD, I hope I am not as rigid and old fashioned in my thinking as some of the older ones and not as frivolous and irresponsible as some of the younger ones. Yes, I have painted with broad strokes, but I cannot keep shaking my head in silence any more.

I'm living welfare check to welfare check but I already got a 40 year loan approved for my C8 , and my monthly payment is only $360 so I still have $1200 a month to live on.

Yes, I was at some 2000 status, and the last word from my dealer was 'no guarantee you will get a 2020'. When things started to go pear shaped back in early Jan, I began communication all in email so there was no 'he said-he said'. I ordered a 2020, and I wanted a 2020, and would not accept a 2021, as the dealer would not guarantee no price increase, and would not guarantee a delivery, and wouldn't even guarantee that I would get the car optioned the way I ordered it. Things never got heated, but I told them my copy of the contract shows quite clearly "Year: 2020, Make: Chevrolet, Model: Corvette"... There was talk of them trying to find the 2020 optioned the way I wanted it, and having it brought to my dealer, but no way they were going to honor the contract price, or the exact options I chose. I am ONLY interested in a 1LT, orange, tan car. The best they could come up with was a 2LT in white or red, with gray or black. My deposit was refunded last Monday, and I doubt I will ever darken their door again.

To all the people who are going to buy or not buy, I would add the following comment. I will turn 78 this Aug. The one thing I can not do is buy more time for life.
Therefore I am going to purchase my C-8. When I will get it (2020/2021) is still TBD. The bottom line I hope I will more than less years to enjoy my car. My .02. Thanks.

Its not incorrect. Maybe dealers are different but heres how Kerbeck goes, which im sure other dealers follow similarly.
I want the car I contact them. I put in 1000 hold money to put me in line. I provide them my details on what I want.
When my time comes up i confirm my order with them. At that time you are given a buyers order and price, Now I can either ask for my 1000 back or proceed with the sale which is 5% of MSRP. Once I sign that buyers order and they receive the deposit my order becomes firm, its over that money just became non refundable unless they can't provide you with the car by a certain date. That may be peoples loophole here is if they dont receive their car by the date promised by dealer which would require them to return your deposit.

Wow. Great example. VERY specific. My order involved no such detailed paperwork. C8 orders are not standardized by dealers, so there are a myriad of buyer situations out there. States have varying consumer protection laws, as well. When involved with the C8 purchase odyssey, YMMV.

It is not that black and white. Give me a friggin' break! It kills me how so many on this forum are billionaires in their own mind...the same ones who talk about past Lambos and Ferraris, and then wonder whether they should be paying "outrageous" $600 doc fees. Or, those like this guy who seems to be implying that if you commit to buying a $60-100K car, nothing in the world should change that purchase decision....not a virus, a loss or potential loss of job, serious health issues, nothing.

This "contract" needs to be signed by the dealer to be binding as spelled out in the signature box. You may have some legal recourse if you want to back out. Perhaps you can sell it for sticker or that Kerbeck would accept it for their stock if there's still demand when the car arrives.
