Get's back to the question of "what is an order?" Yep agree the dealer can get a 1100 code "order" if that makes you feel better! Means little to GM. Oh the computer will say you have an approved color combo and no conflicting options, etc. Yep it's "buildable."

Now when will GM open a "Build order window for a specific number of 2021's the dealer can place for that period? The number depends on their allocation." My "guess" is late September.

That leaves the time for the dealer to get approval and have contracts signed for 2021's with customers who want one, that ordered 2020's that can't be built because of GMs time limitations - to be placed 1st!

The point is that I will place my "ORDER" the first day that the dealer can input 2021 ORDERS. No doubt the order will sit there at 1100 waiting for 2021 SORP AND an allocation coming up in the dealer's order bank. BUT...I would get in as soon as the 2021 can be ordered.

That's fine but went through the same questions when I ordered my 2020 and in fact my early C7.

That first order is really only important for the Dealer who will (should) place your pending buy order when the GM buy order windows opens. If your # 1 with a dealer, say with an allocation of 12, you'll be their first order. If you're number 2 may have to wait until the next dealer buy order window.

If you buy from a large forum dealer like Kerbeck, who say has an allocation of 1400, on that first "Buy Order Window" they could be allowed to place buy orders for ~125 (probably like the 2020's it won't be that high) when your dealer is allowed to buy 1. However Kerbeck has been taking "orders" for 2021s for months so whatever they have first will be ordered 1st when they are allowed (less orders they placed for 2020's for customers that GM can't fill.)

May not be exactly how it works but until GM opens up a "Buy to Build" window the earlier numbers are not something they prioritize. Your dealer should.

Since in a prior post you said your currently at 1100 for a 2020. IMO your dealer would put you ahead on HIS list NOT behind those ordering next. Have to call your dealer and ask. heck GM may be able to produce more 2020s than planned and perhaps 1100's could get made??

I'm not really sure if you are explaining the system to me or everyone else....
This will be my fourth first year Corvette....I know how the system works. I also know that I like to buy local, I know exactly where I am in the dealer's list.

Was not just referring to you specifically but also others who believe because they place an order for 2021 first with their dealer, GM keeps track. As you note 1100 is for the dealer's order placement timing, assuming they follow a 1st on their list is the 1st ordered when GM opens the "buy order window" based on the dealers allocation as to number. Most do.

Fact is some dealers have been taking 2021 orders on their own list and placing it with GM is only a formality. It doesn't mean theirs will be the 1st ordered by that dealer.

According to my dealer, Gm has not provided 20121 ordering information yet in the'Order system.

To do that, GM has to announce firm prices on the "Options," which it is stated might increase (highly probable.) We'll see those prices on the Forum when they are announced.

It will also NOT be in the GM order placement priority list when they do open the "order system." As someone recently mentioned, when that opens any dealer can put in any number and give you a sheet of paper! Means little to GM until they open a "build order window." With the 2020's that was months after the "order window" was open. When the "build order window" opens, a dealer could only put in the number of cars based on their model year "allocation." As I recall the largest dealers were allowed to place around 50 and small allocation dealers 1 or perhaps none that 1st window.

The key with a dealer is you don't need the GM order window to get on "Their Order Priority List." Many dealers require a small (usually refundable) down payment to be placed on their order priority list. For my early 2014 C7, placed soon after the February 2013 launch, only a few dealers were taking "Hold-A-Spot" orders based on whatever the MSRP would be. In fact none of the large forum dealers at the time. For the C8 many stated taking orders based on MSRP very early, well before there was any C8 pricing. FWIW
