Default Thread for all Frunk home made fixes

I am trying to come up with a solution, with parts I have. It allowed, I thought one thread where people could post their DIY frunk fixes. I need to do something so I have peace of mind. Surprised an aftermarket hasn't created something to help us out and make some money.

Smart *** answer - drive to dealer, place your keys on the desk of the GM, walk out, file lemon law

Everything else posted here is Redneck. I'm a redneck so I should know.

well i dont have a C8 yet, but i have been reading about the problem,,, just thinking out loud what about a extension spring ? the link below is one that opens to 4" , i would think you could hook it up to top and bottom points somehow. they have many springs i picked one that opened 4" and is 1.5" long,,, like i said i dont have a C8 yet, and i cant see the frunk

https://www.mcmaster.com/springs/spr...-load~4inches/

i think pulling the fuse and using latch under dash is still the simplest....

Since the lemon law applies to a failure that can't be repaired after the car has been at the dealer for the same problem at least 30 days, not sure how this would work since 99% of the cars work properly and technically there is nothing to fix. For a lot of us, we just aren't willing to play Russian roulette with it.

I'm sure any dealer would just buy it for MSRP and flip it for 10k or more over MSRP.

Personally I can't see myself ever using the frunk in the first place. I will pull the fuse and never look back, even if it's fixed in the '21.

Nothing fancy required. Home Depot nylon rope. Very strong with enough elasticity to take a shock.
Only thing you need to avoid is sharp edges in the fixture.
Length is short so the hood opens about 2 feet. Not far past horizontal. Don't want to load this thing up like a sail if a problem occurs at 70mph.
Requires the proper knot.
Photo is before i shortened it.

You do realize that both the plate on the hood and the latch are not properly secured now right? NOT a good solution.

my thought as well. It’s weird. Honestly wish it wasn’t on the car. Looks like the front of a jet ski.

Yes they are. Secured well enough to keep a hood from opening. It doesn't need to support 400 bs.

Those attachment bolts have a torque spec and it can't be met with rope under the head of the bolt.

C8Jake’s idea looks good and is simple. How are the cargo net holders attached to the car/frunk?

That's what I am going to do if my HTC ever gets built. No messing with the latch bolts, no drilling, no fuss.

Looks like there is enough room to make the cord a little shorter so the Frunk Lid doesn't open as much and still be able to reach the attachment points.

Best solution so far. Some of the ones that attach off center, I wonder if they would bend the hinge hardware if indeed the frunk hood deployed at speed.
