Default C8 Garage Room

For those still waiting for their 2020 and folks with 2021 orders, there was one concern I had prior to getting my C8 yesterday. Was the "Bird Beak" on the door going to cause an issue hitting my Street Rod! It's not a problem. Can open the door wide. In fairness the "Bird Beak" is above the Street Rod running board proving clearance to the door!

As expected, it's somewhat tight fitting into the center of 3 garage doors with 93 inches between the wood moldings IF it's pulled in straight. That seldom happens as have to make a 90 degree turn from the driveway so it's usually at a slight angle. At first, thought like the wife's SUV, would fold in the mirrors. BUT on 2nd thought learned to pull the Grand Sport in with the same width mirrors. Keeping the driver's mirror tip to wood molding (easy to see) under 4 inches, leaves about 4 inches on the harder to see passenger mirror to molding. If folded and the car is pulled in at an angle, it leaves little clearance to the left rear fender. Won't fold the mirrors!

Did see something that was surprising. The tire tread width looks as wide as the large section width 335 Grand Sport tires. Having a "tire width fetish" (probably from the narrow tires in my first car back-in-the day that had way more power than those skinny tires available.) Had to slip the clutch for some distance on a launch off the line! Was concerned about the 305 section width C8 tires versus the Grand Sport 335! The tire tread appears to be similar. Section width doesn't tell the whole story!

Here are some pics of the car after washing, Clay Baring and using two Zaino products today!

Great! Drove 60 miles on back roads yesterday. Drove in Manual Mode. No V4, found I didn't have to downshift when I was coming to a Red light BUT did have to quickly up-shift or the rev's in 1st quickly went to 4000! After that first time I just pulled the up level quickly! Also pulled both paddles whwn I was coming to a Red light and there was no hunting by the Trans as to when to start slipping clutches! Making turns did what I did with my C7s. Went from 5th (about the same gear ratio as 6th in the C8) to 4th pulling the down-shift paddle twice the back up two for 6th.

Found another interesting thing when I got to the 2 miles long 25 mph twisty road I live on. Set cruise control at 30. It would not go over 4th gear, which was fine. The Vette looks like it's speeding when standing still and some of the little old ladies (who drive their SUV's at 45+ complain that I speed. I really don't (on that road or others in our club!)

Today with a heat index over 110 I washed and polished the car early. Bad day to do it but since I told the dealer not to wash the car- had to be done! Tomorrow I'll put on some miles!

Thought I'd connect my GM equivalent charger as no idea how long that battery had been sitting around. It was fully charged in a few hours.

So, if I am reading your measurements correctly the C8 is realatively the same width as the C7 GS?

Just added length to a table I had made for another reason. It's longer, wider than a standard C7 and almost as wide as a GS/Z06.

It's not a small "cute" little car. That's why I chuckle at the shocking color pallet GM has decided is needed for young folks. It's not a cute, little unusually colored kitten! Imagine what you could charge for one in flashy colors that would stay that small !

Built that when I retired 20 years ago. It's a very ridged TCI chassis with coilovers and disk brakes on all 4 corners and a 4 bar link rear suspension. Assembled the 502/502 BB from some 30 boxes that came from Chevy in a big wood crate! It's set back in the '34 sedan body and has 53% of it's weight on a narrowed 9 inch posi rear. The body was built locally by a company producing about 5/week (no longer around.) It was designed to do 0 to 60 in under 3.5 seconds, great for 2000! When I saw the C8 launch and heard under 3 seconds- had to have one so placed my "hold-a-spot"order with Kerbeck who I bought my 2017 Grand Sport and another Vette. The C8 is my 6th Vette and the first DD in 60 years without a 3rd pedal!

WOW, the C8 is bigger. I really didn't look like it when I was doing a walk around of a factory pre production demo car GM had on loan to our local dealer.
