What another dealer prep fee thread??? Also known as Doc Fees, yes my dealer charges one. Many states limit it. Many do not. Florida is the worst. and of course MacMulkin charges none.
Did I get them all ??

Actually a dealer prep fee and a DOC fee are two different items. Some dealers have both listed along with other items they may wish to sell you.
Local dealers all charge a fee. So, negotiate a price. When they add their fee or fees so no problem, just deduct them from the negotiated price.
So what do you do next when they tell you to pound sand and pay up or don't take the car? It is not like you are going to go to the next dealer where they have multiples of them waiting on you.
I'd politely ask what the fee is for? If for standard cleaning of shipping detritus, fluid checks, etc. I'd remind them that GM pays to have them do that. If not this, what then? But you are at their mercy like it or not. We when put down our deposit, I had the sales manager initial a simple Word document I put together. MSRP plus tax is the total period. I listed additional mark up, delivery add ons, etc. Just to assure no surprises when it arrives. I recommend anyone using a 'local' low allocation dealer do the same. The little guys are the ones most likely to want to pile on at the last minute. Greed is systemic to most all car dealers sad but true.

I purchased my car from Macmulkin, and getting a courtesy delivery to West coast. It's $750 for the courtesy delivery. In the terms, though, it says 'Detail will be an additional $200', also $60 for gas. I was planning on telling them no detail, and just leave everything, including the plastic on the seats. I need a little gas to get it home though, so i guess i'm stuck with the $60. kind of lame, though, since i'm already paying $750 just for them to give me the car
I placed my 2021 order with a local dealer when the GM Workbench opened up for 2021. I'm at 1100 status and I'm paying MSRP + tax/title (NO BOGUS Doc fees/etc.)
Geez, how low-life can they get? Btw, at Kerbeck's one has the option to let them do all the out-of-state paperwork--for a fee, or, as I did, opt out and do it all myself after returning home, taking all of about 5-minutes at the DMV.

Total BS, but if people pay it I'm sure Macmulkin will be more than happy to take your money.
So then what is the "Prep Fee" if they are paid to do the PDI by GM? I understand what and why they would charge a DOC fee.
Their argument is they do a much better job than the basic GM pays for. Typically not true and something I do not agree with but reality at some dealers.
