I am sorry if I missed this question elsewhere -- searched and can't find this specific question.
My dealer has allocation and I am top 3 on their list. I think their January allocation is only 3. This dealer does not enter orders into 1100 until they receive the allocation (no MSRP protection).
I heard from the dealer today and he said "Great news! We will be placing your order in the next week or 2!".
Can the dealer place the order anytime after their Jan 21 allocation date? i.e. "next week or 2"? Should I be excited?!?
Or is this "code" that my order won't go in until the February 21 allocation?
I thought orders had to be placed on January 21 -- am I confused on the process?
No, they can't assign the allocation to an order "anytime after the Jan 21 allocation date". GM has a timetable that must be followed. They have a few days to do it. By the following Tuesday it is too late (may need to be done by Saturday - not sure).
On the other hand, the "next week or two" would be too early for February allocations. So, your salesman is just using imprecise language. Hopefully it goes in this week.
Ordering is typically a back office function. Most sales people really know very little about it. The sales staffs at the really big Corvette dealers are the exception.
The way I understand it, is that the dealer get his allocations and constraints on Thursday, contacts his customers between that Thursday and Saturday and places those orders in on Saturday. They can change the order for the last time on Tuesday.
Go to 17:30 for Conti's answer, but this video should be watched by everyone at 1100 and those who plan on buying a C8 soon. Some very useful info even some on what you need to know when choosing a dealership.

Thank y'all for your help.
Next week or two is same language used by macmulkin. He said it Bc he doesn’t know if gm will release January this Thursday or next. Next Thursday is still considered January hence the wording

That's excellent info from a knowledgeable dealer! Thanks.
I am suspicious, lets us know if you get "the call" this Thursday or Friday.
.
Well, I did just talk to my Sales Director and he said my order is going in this Thursday or Friday and needs to be completed by Saturday, He asked to verify my build.
I did ask him about whether MM and other are right about allocations slipping to next week and he seemed to think it will likely be this week but could be next week.
This will mean my deposit / spot at another dealer will be opening up

Congrats, sounds like a late February or early March delivery. Care to share your build?

I Would love late Feb! Sure, my build is 2LT, Metallic Gray, sky gray interior, edge red calipers and engine cover / appearance package, no Z51 or mag ride. Flash painted mirrors, planning on the stripes on the front but will ask the dealer to wait before installing so I can see if I like.... etc... Going for a red, black, gray scheme....Pretty basic.
Just FYI, in spite of all the people on the internet saying an order at 1100 offers price protection, there's no truth to that. 1100 means nothing more than the dealer typed your order into the GM Workbench system. GM hasn't even accepted the order until it reaches 2000.

That is absolutely incorrect. It has been verified by several of the largest Corvette dealers to be true. The price protection only extends for the model year (so 2020 orders that had to be re-ordered as 2021 were not protected against the 2021 price increases). The dealer has to file for the dealer cost difference of any price increase. The window sticker will have the price in effect at the time it is invoiced (shortly after it is produced), but dealers absolutely can get their cost of selling at the original price covered by GM. Probably a lot of dealers don't know how to do this, but the big ones do.
