For sure I'll be more careful next time I leave my car at the dealership, no matter how much trust I have on them. This is the second one I heard in the past few months on the same subject - tech going for a joy ride on someone else's car.
the dealership's terms and conditions mean **** to state laws, especially the ones that say you can't do 148 mph on a public road.

this is why I love being able to swap maps on my wrx. I have a valet map that disables all boost and caps the rev limiter at 4000 rpm. No racing at all in that mode.

From the PDR section of the owner’s manual:

“Law enforcement authorities may have the right to seize video recordings and use them as evidence of criminal/driving offenses against you or third parties.”

I suspect it depends on the particular state laws.

There is usually already enough data available for download in the car to prove whatever is needed. The PDR would just cement it.

This is actually my car (wish it wasn’t).

it’s been wild to see the Reddit thread reach 12k upvotes and I really appreciate the support of the community. The dealership has been responsive and, while I won’t get into how they’ve made amends, I am satisfied assuming they keep their word.

I made the video private per the dealership’s request but you can still find the insane freeway race on r/idiotsincars.

Default In line before a Judge

He should be in line before a judge charged with felony theft, unauthorized use of a motor vehicle and criminal speeding.

Default Over 80 in VA

Over 80 mph in VA is reckless driving. At 100 you will likely be before a magistrate and later a judge fighting the seizure of your vehicle.

May look silly but doesn't sound silly. Every day I would take the slower Hellcat over the Tesla refrigerator.

Once again proof that a free oil change at a dealer is not free when the person doing the work has the mentality of a 15 year old

if you mean impound it when caught in the act, perhaps.

So your definition of fastest is the 1/4 mile? How about top speed? Is that not fastest?

Allegedly, he got fired and the CHP is looking at the video for further action. This was confirmed by the owner on the other forum.

And if this moron would have gotten into a wreck the dealer might even refuse to pay:
