Correct Tire Pressures

Correct Tire Pressures
I just did a forum search but couldn’t get an answer.
My new ‘23 70th Anniversary HTC Z51 had pressures set at 38 psi when I picked it up from dealership brand new.
The door sticker says correct psi is 30 cold.
I run my tires at 30-32 psi, only for my preference of ride quality.
Why does almost every new car get delivered with crazy high psi?
Also, what are you folks running?
thanks

My tire pressures are set to what the door and manual recommend...

Track pressures are lower. TIRE PRESSURES Inflate the front tires to 159 kPa (23 psi) and the rear tires to 165 kPa (24 psi). Road Course target hot pressures of 220–240 kPa (32–35 psi). Value will vary based on driving style, track, temperature, and weather.

It's one of the first things I check, the morning after taking delivery.

30 x 4 is correct. Set before driving in the morning, flat surface, in the shade or inside the garage.

30 cold or first thing in the morning, they get to 35 or even 36 on some days !

Check your manual. Maybe they thought you were going to drive it home at sustained high speeds. For those conditions, GM recommends 38 PSI cold.

I've nudged mine down to 28psi because it is 95 degrees here daily and I was seeing 35-36psi just driving normally. I noticed more road surface 'buzzing' and generally just more ride harshness when the pressure get that high. Backing them off a couple of pounds helped. YMMV as I don't have runflats anymore but instead Pilot Sport 4S non-runflat. The crappy OEM 'zero pressure' tires may well have such stiff sidewalls that the couple of psi doesn't make a difference. If you live where it's HOT and are seeing pressures over 35psi, try backing cold pressure off a couple of pounds, it may improve things.

PDI people don’t care. They use fill them up until they look good. Some read the sidewall and fill to the max. I’ve bought around 40 cars and it’s one of the first things I check. Usually overinflated. Bought a Jeep last year and the pressure was correct. Surprised me.

But for Tracking where you are making many high speed turns, stops etc the tires heat from aggressive use and folks start at lower than the 30 psi on the door jamb. Just follow the plate on the car beit summer or winter. Cold means car left overnight etc.
It is not meant for 70 to 80 mph Interstate drives. Some dealers set it high for whatever reason. The wife's BMW SUV always comes out of service with what is written on the door jamb. When I check the C8 dash, it is always close cold to the door jamb plate (and my accurate pressure gauge.) With colder winter temps it drops and I add air to bring it to 30 to 31 psi.

I have a guess, but that's all it is... a guess....
Overfilled from the factory as they don't know how long a car (obviously not the C8s but as a factory policy) because they don't know how long a car will sit before being sold. Overfilling would prevent any tire flat spotting that may ... that is MAY occur before being sold.....
Then the PDI guy at the dealership doesn't bother to check and make right due to ... laziness? inattention?....
Just guessing.

30 is correct. Practically every new car I've ever owned had too much tire pressure at delivery for probably two reasons. First, they just have more air put in them for shipping and tie down purposes, and secondly, poor PDI. Delivery techs just not doing their job.

I run my tires at the PSI recommended on the sticker in the door jamb.

30psi cold!

The dealership is supposed to remove the added pressure during psi. They don't always do it.

Josh Holder clarified that Ower's Manul 38-psi tire pressure statement in the recent Steve Garrett Podcast. He said that 38-psi it is meant more for the Autobahn (or Silver States Challenge where it common for cars to travel at ~150 mph. That is where our German Commerical Managing Director drove the new Mercedes that was part of his compensation package!) Holder said that was to prevent possible overheating.

Do you know how fast the PDI guys thought he would be going on the way home? Based on some of the videos that have been posted about how fast the dealer techs go maybe they thought over 140 mph.
