I’ve been a member for 18 years. Follow C2, C5, C6, C7 and now C8 topics, as I’ve owned several of each, I’ve never seen so many stupid things/questions as I see on the C8 threads.

 

a lot of people who have bought the car becasue it is cool not an enthuiast do not read the manuel etc. Either ignore them of be helpful to newbs your choice

 

Agreed. When I joined with my first Corvette, I had tons of questions. Three later, I just ordered a C8. For some, it is intimidating to even ask a question, let alone get a smart answer back. Let’s be nice and help people enjoy the ride.

There’s no question here. I was making a statement.

Common sense and such things as reading the owners manual make you wonder if some guys should not be behind the wheel?

Just sayin an observation not a condemnation.

 

I sold my Dodge Challenger in July and joined the deposit list at MM. I started my Corvette journey by going to a local dealership to see a C7. I'm 6'5" 250 and my legs bumped the dash getting in and out. I was out front with 2 salespeople and my wife. Getting in and getting out over and over. It just wasn't a fit for me. I thanked them for their time and was heading out. One of the salespeople said that they just got a C8 and I should try it. I think they were having too much fun with the whole situation, but I was game. It was like night and day for me. We got in and out and I was happy with the fit. Those salespeople could have just said oh well you're too tall and let me leave. Several people are dismissive on forums and reddit. Others like @TensionED and @rfkirk have been instrumental. As a new person looking into Corvettes you don't know things like the fact that this is the first rear engine corvette, what is the difference between trims, what allocations are, how deposit lists work, the fact that you typically cannot test drive a new C8 that you see on a lot, etc. I totally get why someone may want to roll eyes or say duh when reading some of our questions, but like others have said some here are brand new to this and your help and experience is appreciated. I'll know I will still be hon ere after I get my C8 to help others in any way that I can.

 

Thanks for the comment. Over the years I've been on forums dedicated to Porsche's, Jeep Wranglers, RAM trucks, antique Chevy trucks, BMW's, Jaguar's, and Corvette's. Every forum has a few smart asses and tools. But every forum I've been on also has more informative and helpful people who respond to any kind of question that they can offer assistance on. I prefer to be in the latter category. My mom taught me that if you don't have anything nice to say, then keep quiet.

A higher percentage than normal first time Corvette buyers are C8 owners.

With this, an increased level of, "Stupid Questions". But hey it makes the CF go round and round.

Yep it's a shame there are some smartass posts! The forum has some great info, I learn a lot. But its always been an issue. When I joined in 2007 my very smart Plasma Cutting Business Manager also had a C6. He would not post just viewed Threads. He did not want to deal with wiseass comments.

In fact, I often post for folks like him I refer to as the Silent Majority. It's often 10+ times the number of folks who visit a Thread than post. Just picked this one on installing DCT filters: There are 52 Posts and 1,330 folks who visited the Thread. In fact, some of those Vocal Majority posted more than once (like me) so the percentage is even higher.

I’d go the other direction. I don’t mind people asking questions. I don’t regard very many of them to be stupid (the people or the questions).
what I’d love to see is the admins kicking people for just being azzhats whenever possible just because they can. It feels like The CF brother/sisterhood is slowly being diluted by the FB jerks who live to put others down.

You said "stupid things/questions". I think @papillion was putting your post in the "stupid things" category.

The only stupid question is the one not asked. I think the whole point of forums like these was to help educate people. Your "observation" certainly came across as a "condemnation" to this relative newby on this forum and to the Corvette world. It also came across as condescending as well.

 

That was not the intention.

I was comparing C8 thread topics to all the other Generation topics.

Take the time to take to look and you’ll see what I meant. Like how much air to put in my tires and how to wash a car?

 

I have to admit some of my questions might sound stupid. But basically what I'm doing is just taking a shortcut from reading the manual as I should. But, I appreciate the answers and information I get from CF.
