❓❓❓...were you better off for not knowing the truth???❓❓❓
No, I am not talking about the existence of Santa Claus, the Easter Bunny, or even The Tooth Ferry...
Nope, something much more serious...
From the posts I read in this section, I wonder if the world would be better off just not knowing the ugly truth.
What I mean, is when you take your car for service, what did you really expect to happen? I mean, it went to a Chevy dealer, not some concierge service center for an exotic.
In my decades of taking vehicles to GM service centers, I have had some good experiences. I've also had bad... I've had mishaps and more...
Tool dropped on the nose of a Corvette. Yep. And they repainted the chipped panel without cleaning the gun - left me with red mist in the black painted surface But they made it right...
Back then, no PDR to record shenanigans... We had to actually catch them in the act... I remember one time I went to the dealership when they were not returning calls with an update. I went around lunchtime, only to find my car at WOT going the opposite direction. Service advisor said car was done, tech was going on test drive - to pick up lunch, apparently. Car was probably going 80-90 mph, and still accelerating They apologized. I mean, getting upset would not have changed anything...
I have more stories, as this kind of thing went on for decades before, just now is easier to capture.
So when I see PDR screen caps and the complaints, I kinda laugh. I guess this is where we are with data recorders, cameras, and an overall lack of dealership accountability in some cases.
Just wondering, were we better off to NOT know what happened when we took our cars in for service?

We're better off knowing because, as a group, we have power above what individuals possess. If a dealership abuses customer trust enough, word gets around. Knowing helps us all make better informed decisions and pushes service departments to up their game.

I would be a lot better off--in general--if I dropped about 50 IQ points. Ignorance is bliss. I'm like Cypher from The Matrix.

Okay, but what's changed?
PDR has been around since the C7. Dealership service dept. recordings, joyrides, etc., a decade now... What's different, if anything?
To me, the only thing changed since the decades before, is one now knows... But effecting change to correct or "pushes service departments to up their game", I doubt it.

I prefer to know if/when shenanigans were committed AND have PROOF/EVIDENCE of same. Otherwise, it will be MY WORD vs. theirs.

EXPECTATIONS/CONSEQUENCES? At a minimum, I hope that this will be a strong enough deterrent for them to NOT do it again. If shenanigans caused any damage/issues, will listen to what "reparations" (if warranted) they will offer.

Had the oil changed in my 2016 Z06 at Wayzata Chev, Wayzata Mn in 2020. When I picked it up it had 30 extra miles on the odometer. They said they never drove it and there must have been a mix up on the mileage when I dropped it off for the oil change. I’ve bought three GM vehicles since and never considered them as a potential seller.

I guess around me with over 1 million people living in my county alone, I don’t think a dealership really cares about the drop in a bucket then a couple people might mean to them if they lost their service business. It’s such a transient area, somebody else will come along and fill the gap. Like I said, this has been going on for years, and most of the dealerships are still in business, and those aren’t, probably sold out and profited other ways.

Will cross THAT bridge if/when I get there. Knock on wood, my local Chevy service department has been "very well behaved." However, if/when incriminating evidence is captured, will confront the dealer with it. Then, it will NOT be ONLY MY WORD vs theirs.

I have almost forgotten until this thread, but I was had a dealership dent my fender by hitting a fence post in the parking lot. I had used them for a couple of years, and when I went to pick up the car, it was conveniently parked with its nose out, ready to go. The side with the dent, the passenger side, it was up against a wall with only about 10 or 12 inches of room, hardly enough to walk around.
I ended up leaving the dealership driving home and when I got home, I realize that there was a dent in the fender when I called the dealership they suggested it must’ve happened on the way home, not their fault. Keep in mind this is at least 25 years ago and they gave me something like 300 bucks to make the problem go away. I wasn’t happy because the car had flawless paint, otherwise now I had to have it paint matched and it was never right.
The dealer is still in business, in that location, today

I don't know who Karl Pooper is (Post #5) and I am not going to find out.
Today I made a dog happy by giving it a treat. The dog made me happy by letting me pat its head.
True ignorance is not having any dog treats.

I really have no worries about taking my car into any of the local Chevy dealers. They have never given me a reason to think otherwise.

I guess that I have a trustworthy dealer, they do what the car was brought in for & nothing else
